Sri Lanka picked up their first win of the New Zealand tour as they defeated the hosts in a super-over thriller. Sri Lanka batted first and posted 196, courtesy of 53 by Kusal Perera and 67 by Charith Asalanka. The Kiwis, however, matched Sri Lanka’s score after Daryl Mitchell played a 66-run knock.
The match went into the Super Over where Sri Lanka held their nerves to win the game. Sri Lanka will be a series win when the two teams meet in the second game, however, the Kiwis will come back hard.
The pitch should favour the batters while the pacers may get the ball to move early on. A score of around 170 is expected to be chased easily.
It will be a cold but sunny day with temperatures coming down to single-digit numbers.

Kusal Perera had a great outing in the first match as he scored 53 runs. Perera is trying to find his slot back in the Sri Lanka team and the knock will give him great confidence. He is likely to come well in the second game as well.
Charith Asalanka also played a brilliant knock of 67. The batter is known to be one of Sri Lanka’s best talents and will be seeing the coming game as an opportunity that he can be consistent for the team.
Daryl Mitchell is a valuable cricketer in the T20 format. He scores runs for his team and bowls his full quota of overs. He scored a 50 in the last game.
Tom Latham is a very underrated batter. He is excellent against pace and equally good against spinners.
James Neesham can also be a good addition as he adds a lot of balance to the side with his batting and bowling skills.
