Mumbai Indians vs Punjab Kings – Match 31– IPL 2023 | |
---|---|
Date | April 22nd, 2023 |
Time | 7.30 PM IST, 02:00 PM GMT, 7:30 PM Local Time |
Venue | Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai |
After losing the first two games, Mumbai Indians have bounced back well to win their following three games. The likes of Ishan Kishan, Rohit Sharma, and Suryakumar Yadav have found form while Cameron Green's match winning half-century in the last game against SRH will give them a lot of confidence. The bowling has also looked much more in rhythm in last few games.
Meanwhile, Punjab Kings have lost three and won three games in their six outings. Shikhar Dhawan hasn't played in the last two matches which has made their batting look weak. However, he should be back in the next game. Also, the team needs to look at their team combination with players like Bhanuka Rajapaksa and Sikandar Raza not getting a shot in the playing 11.
The match will be played at the Wankhede Stadium which is one of the best wickets to bat in India. There is not a lot of help for the Pacers but spinners will get some grip and turn in the latter stage of the innings.
The weather will be hot and humid with the temperatures soaring to 32 degrees. The conditions will not be easy as high humidity can take a toll on players.
Rohit Sharma (c), Ishan Kishan (wk), Tilak Varma, Suryakumar Yadav, Tim David, Cameron Green, Arjun Tendulkar, Nehal Wadhera, Hrithik Shokeen, Piyush Chawla, Jason Behrendorff
Atharva Taide/Shikhar Dhawan, Matthew Short/Bhanuka Rajapaksa, Harpreet Singh Bhatia, Liam Livingstone, Sam Curran (c)/Sikandar Raza, Jitesh Sharma (wk), Shahrukh Khan, Harpreet Brar, Nathan Ellis/Kagiso Rabada, Rahul Chahar, Arshdeep Singh
There will be a few changes in the Punjab team depending on the fitness of players. Dhawan if fit will return. We may also see Sikandar Raza and Kagiso Rabada. There is an option of Bhanuka Rajapaksa as well so PBKS have a lot to ponder. MI should retain the winning combination with Rilee Meredith being used as impact player if MI bat first. If Archer is fit, he will obviously come back.
Mumbai Indians and Punjab Kings have been very competitive against each other. Mumbai have won 15 matches while Punjab have won 14 matches.

Tilak Varma has been the most consistent batter for MI. Coming in at tough situations, Varma has bailed out Mumbai in many games this season. He will be eyeing another good show in the coming game.
Cameron Green scored a whirlwind half-century in the last game and played a significant role in MI's win. Also, he took a wicket with the ball in hand. He is a valuable player to have in the team.
Liam Livingston didn't do much in his first game this season but the destructive England batter will be eyeing a better show in the coming game.
Piyush Chawla has been brilliant for Mumbai, picking wickets in middle overs and allowing MI to restrict teams to a low score.
Rahul Chahar can prove to be a decent pick against Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium. The wicket will be good to bat, but it has helped the spinners with grip and turn in the recent few matches.
