Date | April 12th, 2023 |
Time | 7.30 PM IST, 2:00 PM GMT, 7:30 PM Local Time |
Venue | MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai |
This is one of the matches to watch out for in IPL 2023. RR has a very good team and has played well in IPL 2023 so far. They are a good visiting team and have done well away from home. Meanwhile, Chennai Super Kings have been very dominant at home which makes the coming game very interesting.
As far as standings are concerned, both CSK and RR have won two and lost one game in three outings. Rajasthan are placed second on the points table while CSK are fifth due to the inferior net run rate.
There is no doubt that spinners will be key on this surface. The wicket is known to help the spinners and given the quality of spinners in both teams, it will not be easy for the bowlers.
The weather will be hot and humid with temperatures rising to 34 degrees. The conditions will be challenging for players but dew should not be a factor in Chennai.
RD Gaikwad, Devon Conway, Ajinkya Rahane, MM Ali, RA Jadeja, S Dubey, Mitchell Santner, SSB Magala, MS Dhoni(C), RS Hangargekar, TU Deshpande
Yashasvi Jaiswal, R Parag, Shimron Hetmyer, Ravichandran Ashwin, Jason Holder, Jos Buttler, SV Samson(C), DC Jurel, Trent Boult, Yuzvendra Chahal, Sandeep Sharma
It is unlikely that both teams will make any changes to the team combination given that both are coming off from wins in the last game. Matheesha Paritana and Maheesh Theekshana have joined CSK but given how well Santner and Magala have bowled, they are likely to warm the bench. Maybe one of them can come in as an impact player.
Matches Played | CSK | RR | NR | Tie | |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Overall | 27 | 15 | 12 | 0 | 0 |
Wicketkeeper | Jos Buttler (VC) |

Batters | Ruturaj Gaikwad, Shimron Hetmyer, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Ajinkya Rahane |
All-rounders | Ravindra Jadeja (C), R Ashwin, Mitchell Santner |
Bowlers | Yuzi Chahal, Trent Boult |
For so many months, Ajinkya Rahane stayed away from the limelight, however when he got an opportunity to play for CSK, he whacked a blazing half-century against MI. Rahane was in full flow against MI and will be eyeing another good show.
Arguably, CSK’s best batter, Gaikwad has been in great form in IPL 2023 and will be looking to continue the good run against Rajasthan Royals. Gaikwad will be crucial for CSK as he will have to negate the threat of Trent Boult. If he can manage that, Rahane and other batters can score freely against Chahal and Ashwin. Things won’t be easy if CSK lose early wickets.
Buttler has been in remarkable form for RR and has scored two fifties in three games. Buttler is very good against pace and as well as spin so he will be key for RR at the top.
Jadeja will be very handy for CSK. He was the man of the match when CSK last played a game here. His spin bowling will be absolutely critical in the middle overs for CSK. If Jadeja is in form, it will be very hard to beat CSK.
Chahal has been in great bowling form and will enjoy the conditions in Chennai. He along with Ashwin will have to win it for RR with the ball
