Chennai Super Kings will host Mumbai Indians in a crucial game. CSK’s last match against LSG was washed out so they are looking for a win desperately to stay afloat in the points table. Meanwhile, Mumbai Indians have picked up some great form and have chased back-to-back 200-plus runs score. With Suryakumar Yadav, Cameron Green, Tilak Varma and Tim David in top form, MI look a real force now.
As for the standing, both CSK and MI are in the race for a place in playoffs. However, with not many games, the teams cannot afford too many defeats. CSK are placed third with five wins in 10 matches while MI too have five wins but they have played a game less.
Even though PBKS chased over 200 here in the last game, it is not a very high-scoring venue. The spinners are hard to get away in the middle overs.
The weather is not very promising as there are 60 per cent chance of rain on the match day. CSK would be hoping that they get a game as they would back themselves to win at home.
Ruturaj Gaikwad, Devon Conway, Ajinkya Rahane, Moeen Ali, Shivam Dube, Ravindra Jadeja, MS Dhoni (c & wk), Deepak Chahar, Matheesha Pathirana, Tushar Deshpande, Maheesh Theekshana/Mitchell Santner
Rohit Sharma (c), Ishan Kishan (wk), Cameron Green, Tilak Varma, Tim David, Nehal Wadhera, Jofra Archer/Jason Behrendorff, Piyush Chawla, Kumar Kartikeya, Akash Madhwal, Arshad Khan
Changes are very unlikely in both teams. Mumbai, however, could drop Archer who is not fully fit and bring in Jason Behrendorff.
CSK and MI are the two most successful teams in IPL. MI have dominated CSK in the tournament’s history with wins in more than 60 per cent of matches.
Matches Played | CSK | MI | NR | Tie | |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Overall | 31 | 16 | 21 | 0 | 0 |
Wicketkeeper | Devon Conway (VC) |
---|---|
Batters | Ruturaj Gaikwad, Ajinkya Rahane, Tilak Varma, Suryakumar Yadav |
All-rounders | Ravindra Jadeja (C), Cameron Green, Moeen Ali |
Bowlers | Piyush Chawla, Maheesh Theekshana, Jofra Archer/Jason Behrendorff |
Conway has been in great form for CSK. He is the third-leading run-scorer of the tournament with 414 runs. Conway has shown great consistency and CSK will hope that the batter keeps on going as his form at the top will determine how far CSK will go in the tournament.
Rahane 2.0 has been a surprise package for teams. The batter has come in and provided CSK with quality runs at brisk pace. Technically very sound, Rahane is a trump card for Dhoni in Chennai where batters need sound technique to succeed, especially against the spinners.
Suryakumar Yadav will be the dangerman for CSK. Yadav has peaked at the right moment for MI and has scored impressive runs in tough situations, helping MS chase back-to-back 200+ scores. CSK will need to get Yadav early out to have any hopes of restricting MI to a low score.
Green has also started to find his mojo back. Green is a big player in the MI set-up owing to his all-round skills. Being a new ball bowler, he has chances of picking early wickets while he also bats in the top order so he is a great pick.
Jadeja has been sensational with the ball for CSK, especially where there is help for the spinners. If MI have to beat CSK, they need to dominate Jadeja which will not be easy by any means given the conditions on offer.
