Australia will start their T20 World Cup title defence with a game against Trans Tasmanian rivals New Zealand. Australia come into the tournament having lost the T20I series at home against New Zealand. However, the loss should not hamper the team's confidence of winning the title again. Australia have one of the best teams on paper and if they play to their potential, they will be hard to stop in the tournament.
Meanwhile, New Zealand hosted Pakistan and Bangladesh in the tri-series at home but lost to Pakistan in the final. The team has looked off-colour of late with big guns like Kane Williamson, and Martin Guptill not firing.
We are not sure how Trent Boult and Tim Southee, their strike bowlers will fare in Australian conditions so New Zealand will have to punch above their weight to make an impact in the tournament.
Sydney is one of the best wickets to bat in Australia. It’s more like a subcontinent wicket where batters get the full value of shots. However, they need to be careful against the spinners as the ball grips and turns.
The weather is not looking good for the week as plenty of rain is predicted on the match day. The chances of rain are as high as 90 per cent.
Martin Guptill/Finn Allen, Devon Conway, Kane Williamson, Glenn Phillips, Michael Bracewell, Jimmy Neesham, Mitchell Santner, Ish Sodhi, Trent Boult, Adam Milne, Tim Southee
David Warner, Aaron Finch, Mitchell Marsh, Glenn Maxwell, Marcus Stoinis, Tim David/Steve Smith, Matthew Wade, Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, Adam Zampa, Josh Hazlewood
Jos Inglish has been ruled out of the tournament for Australia due to injury. Meanwhile, New Zealand will have to decide whether they want to go with Martin Guptill or Finn Allen as an opener.
Australia have dominated New Zealand in T20Is and have won 10 of the 15 games.

All-rounders | Michael Bracewell, Mitchell Santner, Glenn Maxwell, Marcus Stoinis (VC) |
Bowlers | Trent Boult, Josh Hazlewood, Mitchell Starc |
David Warner will be Australia's main man with the bat. Warner is one of the best batters going around and he has a staggering record in T20 cricket. He comes into the match with some form as well. Against England in the first T20I, Warner scored 73 off 44 and almost helped Australia hunt down 209.
Devon Conway has been the most consistent batter for New Zealand across formats. He has been in good form of late as well, having top-scored for New Zealand in the previous tri-series, with 233 runs in five games. New Zealand will expect a good show from Conway in the tournament.
A good show by Marcus Stoinis will help Australia go a long way in the tournament. Stoinis is one of the cleanest strikers of a cricket ball and is very capable to play at a strike rate of 200. His 30 balls stay at the crease can make a game for Australia. Additionally, he is a good bowler as well and can bowl his full quota of overs on a good day.
Mitchell Starc will pose a stern challenge to the Kiwi bowlers. His toe crushers are one of the deadliest balls in cricket and he is sure to use them to full effect against the Kiwis in the coming game.
Given the long boundaries and slightly off-pace surface, Mitchell Santner can trouble the Aussies. The Australian batters like to attack spinners and this is where Santner can get his wickets.
