Australia vs Ireland – T20 World Cup Match 31 | |
---|---|
Date | 31st October 2022 |
Time | 1:30 PM IST, 8:00 AM GMT, 6:00 PM LOCAL |
Venue | >Gabba, Brisbane |
Australia have played three games, winning one, and losing one while their game against England was washed out due to rain. They now have two games left against Ireland and Afghanistan and they need to win the matches to have any hopes of qualifying. They will certainly start this match as favourites but their goal should be to improve their run rate which took a beating after their crushing loss to New Zealand.
Meanwhile, Ireland lost to Sri Lanka but stunned England in a massive upset. Their game against Afghanistan was washed out. While a win looks highly unlikely, they have players who can make the unlikely win look very possible.
Gabba is known for fast, bouncy pitches and the same has been offered in the T20 World Cup 2022. Batters need to be on their toes to score runs here. The bowlers, especially the pacers, will enjoy a lot here.
A warm day will welcome the teams in Brisbane. There is no threat of rain, the sun will be out the and temperature will be around 25 degrees, perfect conditions to play cricket.
David Warner, Aaron Finch (c), Mitchell Marsh, Glenn Maxwell, Marcus Stoinis, Tim David, Matthew Wade (wk), Pat Cummins, Ashton Agar, Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood
Paul Stirling, Andrew Balbirnie (c), Lorcan Tucker (wk), Harry Tector, Curtis Campher, George Dockrell, Gareth Delany, Mark Adair, Fionn Hand, Barry McCarthy, Joshua Little
Matthew Wade has tested negative for the virus but he was already playing the game so Australia should field the same team and so does Ireland.
Ireland are yet to beat Australia in any form of the game.
Matches Played | AUS | IRE | NR | Tie | |

Overall | 1 | 1 | 0 | 0 | 0 |
Wicketkeeper | Lorcan Tucker |

Batters | David Warner (C), Paul Stirling, Mitchell Marsh, Andrew Balbirnie |
All-rounders | Marcus Stoinis, Curtis Campher |
Bowlers | Josh Hazlewood (VC), Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins, Joshua Little |
David Warner has not fired so far but he is one of the best batters in the format and against a not-so-lethal Ireland attack, Warner can return to form and play a big knock.
Marcus Stonis scored a blazing fifty against Sri Lanka and helped Australia win a very important game. Stoinis has been in very good form for Australia and if he gets an opportunity to bat, he can decimate the Irish bowling.
Arguably Ireland’s best batter, Paul Stirling will have a big responsibility of setting a good platform for the middle order. A big knock from Paul will help Ireland reach a good total and that will make the game interesting.
Hazlewood’s greatest strength is his accuracy with lines and length. He will be the most dangerous of the three Australian pacers for sure on the Gabba surface.
Mitchell Starc will bowl fast and the spicy pitch will help him to the ball in to the right-handers. At that pace, and with help from the surface, he will not be easy to face.
