Yorkshire vs Durham Preview & Prediction

The top three comprising Mark Stoneman, Phil Mustard and Ben Stokes will have to score the big runs if Durham want to find themselves in a strong position. Of the three, it is Mustard who is more likely to top-score for them. The opening batsman has struck two fifties so far in the tournament and has scores of 75 not-out and 40 in his last two games. Stoneman made a fine 40 against Northamptonshire and Durham will want him to replicate this performance against Yorkshire.

Having taken 15 wickets in 10 matches, Paul Coughlin looks to be the most threatening of the bowlers. The medium pacer is taking wickets on a consistent basis and is likely to cause problems for the Yorkshire batsmen. Scott Borthwick notched up four scalps against Leicestershire and his leg spin can be effective at Headingley. Chris Rushworth took three wickets in the reverse fixture and he too could have a major role to play on Wednesday.

Our Prediction

In the five meetings between these two teams in the past, Durham Jets have won three times. Both have a win each in the two face-offs at the Headingley Cricket Ground with the most recent match here won by the Yorkshire Vikings last year. Coming to this year's performance, Durham are faring better and they will be heading into this upcoming contest on the back of three successive victories. They got the better of Yorkshire in the reverse fixture last month and will be raring to take them on again on Wednesday.

Although Yorkshire Vikings will enjoy the benefit of playing in the conditions they know better than Durham Jets, we feel that the latter have the momentum with them and stand a better chance of winning this match.
