Coming into this game in fifth place, Western Province still have an opportunity to finish in the top four and a win in this clash on Sunday will see them leapfrog Titans into the final semi-final spot. They kept their hopes alive with 63 run win over Boland on Friday.
Western Province’s batting line-up posted 173/4 after batting first against Boland in Match 49 and captain Kyle Verreynne would certainly take that total again in this match. Verreynne and Linde contributed 69 runs for the fourth wicket partnership against Boland.
It was not just the batters who performed well on Friday, defending a target of 174, Western Province bowled Boland out for just 110. Best of all for the team management, all of the bowling unit picked up at least one wicket in the game with Beuran Hendricks the pick of the bowling unit.
Western Province had not won any of their previous five games before their big win on Friday.
Edward Moore, Tony de Zorzi, Jonathan Bird, Kyle Verreynne (c) (wk), George Linde, Kyle Simmonds, Valentine Kitime, Juan James, Onke Nyaku, Beuran Hendricks, Wesley Bedja
Not only did Titans continue their winning run on Friday but they caused an upset as they beat top of the table Lions in a thrilling and close contest. It is a simple equation for Titans who must win this game against Western Province to secure fourth place and qualify for the semi-finals.
Needing 158 to beat Lions, Titans saw four of their players get into the twenties but none of them could reach forty which meant the chase became very tense particularly as the wickets fell on a regular basis. The opening pair of Lhuan-dre Pretorius and Rivaldo Moonsamy are both in strong form ahead of this game.
It is not just in the opening batters where Titans have some real quality. With the ball, David Wiese and Lungi Ngidi are expected to share new ball duties again in this match and both will bring experience as well as international level talent to the attack.
Titans are ending the group stage in fine form and will be targeting their fourth successive victory.
Lhuan-dre Pretorius (wk), Rivaldo Moonsamy, Jack Lees, Sibonelo Makhanya, Neil Brand (c), Dayyan Galiem, David Wiese, Corbin Bosch, Junior Dala, Lungi Ngidi, Tabraiz Shamsi
This is all setup to be a fascinating contest on Sunday in what essentially is a winner takes all head to head between Western Province and Titans. Whoever emerges with the win will finish in fourth place and progress to the semi-final with the losers dropping out of the tournament. We are backing the in-form Titans to win.
