It was a disappointing start to the campaign for Western Province who were beaten by the current CSA T20 Challenge holders, Rocks, by five wickets with 23 balls remaining on Tuesday. Western Province posted 155-7 but the total was way too low to defend.

Both of Western Province’s opening batters were dismissed inside the opening two overs on Tuesday and it was the middle and lower-order batters who took them to over 150. George Linde top scored with 39 runs from 38 balls before an unbeaten eighth wicket partnership of 32 runs from Kyle Simmonds and Beuran Hendricks.

There were three wicket takers for Western Province against Rocks with Mihali Mpongwana, George Linde and Junaid Dawood going wicketless. Right arm pace bowler Tshepo Moreki took 2-24 with Abdullah Bayoumy recording figures of 2-38.

It is now four successive games without a win for Western Province in the CSA T20 Challenge.

Knights 

With only 22.5 overs played in Match 3, Knights had to settle for a no-result in their opening game against Warriors on Tuesday evening in Potchefstroom. Although they had restricted Warriors to 134-9 from their 20 overs, Knights were 21-3 when the rain closed in.

KTS Batting

Opener Jacques Snyman was not only unbeaten for Knights on Tuesday, he was the only batter to hit a six. He hit seven runs from three balls but watched from the non-striker's end as Gihahn Cloete, Raynard van Tonder and Pite van Biljon were dismissed in successive overs.

KTS Bowling

Pace bowler Gerald Coetzee was the only Knights bowler to go wicketless against Western Province but was reasonably economical with figures of 0-27 from four overs. 33 year old off-spinner Aubrey Swanepoel took 3-27 alongside Alfred Mothoa who took 1-17.

Knights have struggled for victories in this tournament and have won only one of their last four matches..
