With rain forcing a no result in each of the last two matches, Warriors could stick with an unchanged – and as yet untested team – with Onke Nyaku ahead of Thomas Kaber.
Gihahn Cloete was Warriors’ top batsman in each of their first two matches and boasts a strike rate north of 150 at the top of the order. His unbeaten 46 led them to victory in a rain-reduced opening game against Titans.
Marco Marais was their star man the last time they got a bat, however – he was unbeaten on 82 from 33 balls when the rain curtailed their innings, and the match, against Lions at East London. Marais is the only Warriors’ batsman to score a half-century so far this season.
South Africa international Lutho Sipamla took three wickets in South Africa’s T20i series with Sri Lanka and he has two wickets so far in this competition. Warriors know their bowling needs to tighten up, however, having been expensive so far.
Despite conceding 216/5 against Titans in their first match, a generous D/L target helped Warriors’ claim victory – Gihahn Cloete’s unbeaten 46 in a total of 60/0 from six overs enough to for a four-run win.
They have only had one more completed game since, however – posting 151/8 in their previous meeting against Cape Cobras. The Cobras stormed to a seven-wicket win with 25 balls to spare, however.

Jason Smith replaced Dane Paterson in the bowling attack last time out, but bowled just one expensive over and, if Paterson is fit, that change could be reversed. Cape Cobras have otherwise tended to be consistent with their line-up, with Hashim Amla trying to bat himself into World Cup form at the top of the order.
Janneman Malan was the star of the show when these teams last met, hammering an unbeaten 103 to lead Cape Cobras to victory. He averages 39 so far and boasts a strike rate of 150.Only two other Cobras’ batsmen have passed 100 runs in their five matches so far. David Bedingham did so with his half-century last time out to move to 118 runs so far, while Kyle Verreynne has hit 116 runs in four innings.
Hashim Amla’s form has been scratchy as he looks to get back to his best, but there is little doubting his ability if he can recapture his flowing brilliance with the bat.
With the ball, Rory Kelinveldt has eight wickets so far and an economy rate of 6.47, while Vernon Philander joined him with some brilliant death bowling in the win against Knights. He has four wickets so far and an economy rate of 6.76.
Cape Cobras have lost just once so far in CSA T20 Challenge 2019 – a seven-wicket defeat to Titans after they were restricted to a below-par 150/6 from their 20 overs.
Since then, however, they have won both games they have played. First was the reverse fixture against Warriors, when Janneman Malan’s 103 from 57 balls led them to a seven-wicket win chasing 152. Last time out, meanwhile, some great death bowling from Vernon Philander and Rory Kleinveldt helped them defend 150/5 against Knights – the Knights finishing on 145/7.

Cape Cobras’ seven-wicket win a week ago, thanks to Janneman Malan’s unbeaten century at the top of the order in a chase of 152, was their 18th in 27 previous games against Warriors. Warriors have won the other nine, including one of last season’s two matches. Cape Cobras won the other.
Cape Cobras are favourites to beat Warriors at 1.72 with Bet365 and Betway. Warriors are 2.10 and 2.05 respectively.
Janneman Malan starred when these sides last met, and he is 1.83 to score over 23.5 runs, as is Hashim Amla. Malan is 3.25 to be their top batsman, while Amla is 3.50. After his half-century last time out, David Bedingham is 5.00.
With the ball, Dane Paterson is 2.87 to be their top bowler, while Vernon Philander can be backed at 3.75 and Rory Kleinveldt at 3.00.
For Warriors, Lutho Sipamla and Sisanda Magala are both 3.25 to be their top bowler with Betway. Gihahn Cloete is 3.75 to be Warriors’ top batsman, while JJ Smuts is 3.50 and Marco Marais – after his big-hitting before the rain in their last innings – is 4.50.
Cape Cobras are one of the form teams in the CSA T20 Challenge so far and, while the weather has frustrated Warriors, they have already lost once to the Cobras.
