Thailand Women are favorites to win
Thailand Women will take on Malaysia Women at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium Ground 2. Match 16 in the Round-robin stage of the 2022 Women’s Asia Cup gets underway on Sunday 9th October at 09:00 local time.
With two wins and two defeats so far in the tournament, Thailand Women have four points and are currently only two points behind top of the table India. They lost their opening two matches but have since beaten Pakistan Women and UAE Women.
Nattakan Chantam top scored in the win over Pakistan Women with 61 runs from 51 balls but it was captain Narumol Chaiwal who hit the most runs in the victory against UAE Women. She scored 37 not out from 52 balls in an innings which included only one four.
Thailand Women’s bowlers put in an excellent team display for the second game running and restricted UAE Women to 89-8 when chasing 109 for victory. 18 year old left arm spinner Thipatcha Putthawong was the most impressive bowler and finished with figures of 2-12 from four overs.
After a tough start with losses against Bangladesh Women and Sri Lanka Women, Thailand Women have now won two matches in a row.
With a record of five defeats from five matches, Malaysia Women are bottom of the table and are two points behind UAE Women in fifth place. Their most recent loss came against Sri Lanka Women on Saturday with the margin of defeat 72 runs.
The batting has been a real issue for Malaysia Women throughout the tournament and right now they are in the middle of a very poor run of scores. They were bowled out for 41 from 18.5 overs against Bangladesh Women and 33 from only 9.5 overs against Sri Lanka Women.
Although the batting has been a struggle, Malaysia Women’s bowlers have impressed in the last two matches. Against Bangladesh Women they took five wickets and then followed up with seven dismissals against Sri Lanka Women.
As long as Malaysia Women struggle to score a total over 50, they will be consistently beaten. A victory in the tournament looks a long way away.
The match will be played at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium Ground 2. Overall this has proven to be a good batting wicket but sides with weak batting line-ups will struggle to post 100.
