Surrey are favorites to win
Surrey will take on Sussex Sharks at The Oval, London. This T20 match gets underway at 14:30 local time on Sunday 28th May.
After two games in two days on Thursday at Lord’s and Friday at The Oval, Surrey have already posted two wins and look likely to be one of the strongest sides in the South Group once more. Kent Spitfires were beaten by 41 runs on Friday.
All of the top five batters for Surrey were dismissed for scores in between 11 and 17 on Friday before Australian all-rounder Sean Abbott hit an extraordinary 110 not out from 41 balls to take the team to a total of 223-5. There were 14 sixes in the innings with Abbott hitting 11 of them.
Leading wicket taker from Lord’s, Gus Atkinson, and Abbott were the only wicketless players for Surrey on Friday with Will Jacks, Tom Lawes, Sunil Narine all picking up two wickets each. We expect the spinners to get turn and bounce again on Sunday.
Surrey have got off to an excellent start in the 2023 T20 Blast and have a wide range of players capable of producing match-winning performances.
In spite of Ravi Bopara continuing his top form from earlier in the week and Tymal Mills producing another T20 bowling masterclass, Sussex Sharks still went down to an opening game defeat at home to Somerset in Hove on Friday evening.
After hitting scores of 144 and 47 earlier in the week for Sussex 2nds, captain Ravi Bopara hit 88 not out of the Sharks total of 183-8. Ali Orr made 33 runs from 18 balls and loan signing Michael Burgess hit 17 runs but the rest of the batters made single figure scores. More from Tom Clark and Shadab Khan will be needed in this game.
Against a strong Somerset side, Sussex Sharks took the game to the final over but ultimately lost by 5 wickets with 3 balls remaining. Tymal Mills took 3-28 and England international George Garton also impressed with 1-26. Fynn Hudson-Prentice may be left out of this game after conceding 51 runs from 2.3 overs.
Sussex Sharks can not rely on Ravi Bopara and Tymal Mills in every game. They need multiple players to put in stronger performances to be competitive on Sunday.
This Vitality T20 Blast game will be played at The Oval, London. It is always a good batting wicket with plenty of pace in the surface at this venue.

Sussex Sharks have a competitive squad and we expect them to pick up victories in this campaign but Somerset and Surrey are two of the hardest teams to face in the South Group. Surrey at home are particularly tough and we are backing them to to win this match on Sunday.
