Sri Lanka Legends are favorites to win
Sri Lanka Legends will take on New Zealand Legends in Match 16 of the Road Safety World Series at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium, Dehradun. The game begins at 19:30 local time on Sunday 24th September.
The runners-up from the 2021 Road Safety World Series have got off to an excellent start in this year’s tournament. They are top of the table with a 100% record after beating Australia Legends by 38 runs, England Legends by seven wickets and South Africa Legends by 11 runs.
Sri Lanka Legends’ openers make up two of the top three run scorers in the tournament but Dilshan Munaweera and captain Tillakaratne Dilshan contributed only 27 runs in the win over South Africa Legends last Sunday. Jeevan Mendis top scored with 43 not out from 27 balls at number five.
Nuwan Kulasekara took 2-33 against South Africa Legends with Tillakaratne Dilshan, Isuru Udana and Jeevan Mendis taking a wicket apiece. Kulasekara has series figures of 8-80 from 11 overs and is the leading wicket taker in the tournament.
Sri Lanka Legends lost only two games last season and have won all three of their matches so far in the 2022 Road Safety World Series.
New Zealand Legenda have taken eight points from their four games although only two of their matches have been completed. Their match against India Legends was ended after only 5.5 overs with Wednesday’s clash with West Indies Legends not delivering one ball.
Dean Brownlie is averaging 79.00 in the competition but, due to poor weather conditions, has not had an opportunity to bat in the last two games. Opener Jamie How got the team off to a strong start against Bangladesh Legends with 26 runs from 17 balls.
New Zealand Legends’ victory over Bangladesh Legends was partly down to excellent bowling from the opening pair of right arm fast medium Kyle Mills and Hamish Bennett. The opening bowlers not only took wickets but recorded economy rates of 5.50 and 6.66 in comparison to the 10.00+ figures from their team-mates.
In their first appearance in the Road Safety World Series, New Zealand Legends have impressed so far. The rained off fixtures against India and West Indies Legends could well benefit the team.
The match will be played at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium, Dehradun. Spinners were on top in Thursday’s game on this wicket and we expect the same in this fixture.
