Somerset are favorites to win
Somerset will take on Middlesex at The County Ground, Taunton. This T20 match gets underway at 18:30 local time on Friday 2nd June.
Four games into their 2023 T20 Blast campaign and Somerset have been unstoppable so far with wins over Hampshire Hawks, Sussex Sharks, Glamorgan and Kent Spitfires. Their last game, against the Spitfire, saw them win by 13 runs (DLS).
Although it has been an excellent start for Somerset, this has all been achieved in spite of poor form at the top of the order from Will Smeed who has contributed only 43 runs including a duck against the Spitfires. However, Somerset have a very deep batting line-up.
As with their batting, Somerset have a great group of bowlers all capable of picking up wickets and keeping the opposition’s run-rate down. All six of their bowlers used against Kent Spitfires took at least one wicket with New Zealand’s Matt Henry taking 1-9 from three overs.
Somerset have not only won all four of their matches but have not looked like losing any of them. They are the in-form side in the South Group.
A 29 run defeat against Glamorgan on Wednesday means that Middlesex come into this game looking to avoid their fifth successive loss of the competition. They were beaten by Glamorgan at Northwood by 29 runs on Wednesday to stay bottom of the South Group.
Chasing 239 for victory, Middlesex’s openers got the team off to a brilliant start as Joe Cracknell and captain Steve Esknazi put on 146 inside 12 overs. Cracknell was dismissed for 77 runs from 42 balls with Eskinazi hitting his second successive half-century.
With Tom Helm and Ryan Higgins both conceding more than 60 runs from their four overs on Wednesday, Blake Cullen’s figures of 2-23 from four overs were all the more impressive. The 21 year old comes into this match with five wickets from his last two matches.
Middlesex have had one narrow defeat with the other three defeats by significant margins. They are yet to put together a team performance with both bat and ball.
This Vitality T20 Blast game will be played at The County Ground, Taunton. There is assistance for the pace and seam bowlers but also consistent bounce for the batters to take advantage of.

It would take a huge upset for Middlesex to go to Taunton and leave with the win on Friday evening. Although there are some players in-form for Middlesex, overall the team is under-performing. Somerset have been playing high quality T20 cricket for many years and we are backing them to win.
