Sri Lanka Women will take on India Women in the third and final WODI. The game will be played at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium, Kandy starting at 10:00 local time on Thursday 7th July.

For the second successive WODI in this series, Sri Lanka Women batted first and posted a score in the 170s on Monday. Only five players, Chamari Atapathuthu, Anushka Sanjeewani, Nilakshi de Silva, Ama Kanchana and Oshadi Ranasinghe made double-figure scores although none were able to post a half-century. With the ball, in spite of using six bowlers, none were able to dismiss either of the India Women openers and the game was over with 24.6 overs of the second innings remaining. Sri Lanka Women have some talented players but in truth they are up against a far stronger side with greater squad depth.

India Women have been successful on this tour but we had not seen such a dominating performance as we saw on Monday in the second WODI. Renuka Singh Thakur was the star with the ball, she took a wicket during the first over of the game and followed up with three more to finish with excellent figures of 4-28 from 10 overs. Fellow opening bowler Meghna Singh was more expensive with 2-43 and Deepti Sharma also chipped in with two wickets. India’s opening batters, Shafali Verma and Smriti Mandhana, both impressed, hit sixes and finished unbeaten with strike-rates above 100.

The match will be played at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium, Kandy. Although there is plenty of turn available on this surface, the pace bowlers showed on Monday that they can still play a big role in Kandy.
