Sri Lanka Women are favorites to win
Sri Lanka Women will take on Bangladesh Women at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium Ground 2. Match 17 in the Round-robin stage of the 2022 Women’s Asia Cup gets underway on Monday 9th October at 09:00 local time.
After a first game defeat to India Women, Sri Lanka Women have embarked on a three game winning streak and currently sit in third place in the table with six points. Their last victory came on Saturday when they beat Malaysia Women by 72 runs.
Although Sri Lanka Women made only 107-5 with the bat on Saturday, they still won by a huge margin. Harshitha Samarawickrama made only three runs against Malaysia Women but has scored 147 runs in total in the competition, the second highest of any batter.
Right arm medium-fast bowler Malsha Shehani was the star with the ball in Saturday’s match. She bowled only 1.5 overs but finished with figures of 4-2. Sugandika Kumari and Inoka Ranaweera have both taken five wickets from 13 overs in the competition.
Sri Lanka Women are in the best form of any side in the tournament and are targeting their fourth successive win in this game.
The hosts are in fourth place in the table but only two points behind second placed Pakistan Women. So far, Bangladesh Women have beaten Thailand Women and Malaysia Women but have lost to India Women and Pakistan Women.
Nigar Sultana top scored for Bangladesh Women in Saturday’s heavy defeat to India Women with 36 runs from 29 balls. She has been the side’s most consistent batter across this campaign and is one of six players across all teams to have scored over 100 runs.
31 year old leg-spinner Rumana Ahmed has been impressive throughout this tournament and took her second three wicket haul in the game on Saturday. She dismissed three of India Women’s top five batters and was one of the candidates for the Player of the Match Award.
Bangladesh Women have been inconsistent in the 2022 Women’s Asia Cup and have only beaten the less experienced nations so far.
The match will be played at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium Ground 2. Spinners continue to dominate the batters on this pitch. We predict a par score of 140+ in this match
