South Africa are favorites to win
The second warm-up game of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 will see Sri Lanka taking on South Africa. Scheduled to be played on May 24, the match will be hosted by the Sophia Gardens in Cardiff. Live telecast will begin at 10:30 AM local time.
TV channels: Star Sports 1, Fox Sports, Sky Sports, Ten Cricket, SuperSport, OSN CricHD
Live Streaming: Bet365, Hotstar, Foxtel, Sky Go, Now TV
The wicket at the Sophia Gardens, in the recent past, has tended to become better for batting after the first period of play. And also since four of the last six one-day internationals played here have been won by the side bowling first, the toss-winning captain could elect to bowl first.

Dimuth Karunaratne is set to lead Sri Lanka in the 2019 Cricket World Cup. Kusal Perera is likely to do the glovework behind the stumps as Niroshan Dickwella has not been picked in the squad. Dinesh Chandimal too has been ignored due to his recent poor form with the bat. The Sri Lankan selectors have also not considered Akila Dananjaya and have opted for leg-spinner Jeffrey Vandersay instead. Angelo Mathews has returned after recovering from his hamstring injury.
Lahiru Thirimanne, Dimuth Karunaratne, Kusal Mendis and Angelo Mathews are the key figures in this Sri Lankan batting line-up. Mathews, the team's former captain, is the most experienced batsman in the side and is also the leading ODI run-getter from the current squad. Karunaratne and Mendis both cracked half-centuries in the last match against Scotland while Thirimanne, who scored an unbeaten 44, will provide stability to the middle order. On the bowling front, Sri Lanka will be counting on their seam bowlers Nuwan Pradeep, Suranga Lakmal, Thisara Perera and Lasith Malinga to put pressure on South Africa by taking wickets early in the innings. Malinga has tons of experience on his side and is one of the team's most successful ODI bowlers with 322 wickets in 218 matches. Pradeep and Lakmal shared six wickets between them against Scotland and the duo will be expected to replicate that performance against the Proteas.
Tuesday's 35-run victory over Scotland at Edinburgh was Sri Lanka's first win in the nine one-day internationals they have played so far since the start of this year. In January, they suffered a 0-3 whitewash to New Zealand in New Zealand before being drubbed by South Africa two months later in a five-match series in South Africa. Sri Lanka had a good outing with both bat and ball in their previous rain-curtailed encounter against Scotland.
Dimuth Karunaratne (c), Lasith Malinga, Angelo Mathews, Suranga Lakmal, Isuru Udana, Thisara Perera, Lahiru Thirimanne, Jeevan Mendis, Nuwan Pradeep, Dhananjaya de Silva, Milinda Siriwardana, Kusal Perera, Kusal Mendis, Jeffrey Vandersay, Avishka Ferna
South Africa have replaced injured fast bowler Anrich Nortje by all-rounder Chris Morris. Kagiso Rabada, Lungi Ngidi and Dale Steyn are all currently nursing their respective injuries but the trio is expected to regain complete fitness in time for the tournament. All-rounder Wiaan Mulder and batsman Reeza Hendricks have not been included in the CWC19 squad with Aiden Markram being preferred over the latter. Quinton de Kock is the lone specialist wicketkeeper in this South African side.
Quinton de Kock and skipper Faf du Plessis had a fantastic ODI series against Sri Lanka in March where both topped the runs charts with 353 and 272 runs respectively. The former is ranked fourth in the ICC ODI batting rankings while the latter is fifth and both will be crucial to South Africa's chances of winning their maiden World Cup title. Hashim Amla is struggling to find form but one good innings in this warm-up game should be enough to bring his confidence back. Middle-order batting, however, will depend mainly on JP Duminy and David Miller. Kagiso Rabada, Dale Steyn and Lungi Ngidi form a threatening pace attack. All three are recovering from injuries and they will pose a serious threat to the Sri Lankan batsmen if they play on Friday. Imran Tahir picked up nine wickets in the ODI series against Sri Lanka. The leg-spinner had the Lankans in all sorts of problems, and given the form he is in, he is likely to trouble them again.
South Africa have shown impressive ODI form in the recent past. They have played ten one-day internationals this year (all at home) and have won eight of those. After defeating Pakistan 3-2 in January, the Proteas whitewashed Sri Lanka in a five-match series in March which means they will be going into this warm-up game on the back of six consecutive ODI wins. The South African bowlers were exceptional against Sri Lanka, keeping them down to modest totals each time.
Faf du Plessis (c), Jean-Paul Duminy, Hashim Amla, Dale Steyn, David Miller, Imran Tahir, Chris Morris, Quinton de Kock, Dwaine Pretorius, Rassie van der Dussen, Aiden Markram, Kagiso Rabada, Andile Phehlukwayo, Lungi Ngidi, Tabraiz Shamsi
Sri Lanka and South Africa have played 76 one-day internationals against each other with the former winning 31 of those and the latter 43. One of those matches had resulted in a tie while one had to be abandoned due to rain.
South Africa have beaten Sri Lanka 16 times in their previous 18 ODI meetings. The Proteas completed a 5-0 clean sweep when they last played an ODI series against the Lankans earlier this year in March at home.
The two countries have never faced each other at the Sophia Gardens in the game’s fifty-over format.

South Africa are overwhelming favorites to win this warm-up match with Bet365 at short odds of 1.40. Sri Lanka, largely due to their dismal form in the fifty-over format, find themselves as outsiders at 3 with the same bookmaker.
Sri Lanka and South Africa have shown contrasting forms in the fifty-over format of the game over the past couple of years. The gap between these two teams is massive at the moment with the former lying at the ninth place in the ICC ODI rankings while the latter is ranked third. The Proteas also have the upper hand when it comes to head-to-head record. They have beaten the Lankans 16 times in their previous 18 attempts and swept the series 5-0 when they played them at home just a couple of months ago. South Africa look superior in all departments and conditions too should favor them more which is why we are backing them to win this warm-up match.
