Ireland Women are favourites to win
Scotland Women will take on Ireland Women in the third WIT20 at The Grange Club, Edinburgh. The final game in the series begins at 13:00 local time on Thursday 8th September.
In a rain reduced game in Edinburgh on Tuesday, Scotland struggled again to make a competitive total. Saski Horley was again the best batter for Scotland and their lower order were particularly ineffective with the bat. Overall the bowling attack will need more runs to play with if they are to field second in this match.
Saskia Horley has now played two WT20Is and has scored 96 runs across both games. She hit five boundaries and contributed over a third of Scotland’s runs with no other player scoring over 17. Opener Ailsa Lister impressed with an attacking 17 from 10 balls.
20 year old left arm pace bowler Rachel Slater took the only Irish wicket in the second WIT20. Although she did not take any wickets across her two appearances, she clearly learnt a lot from her spell with the Northern Superchargers in the Women’s Hundred last month.
Scotland Women have now lost three games in a row. They will need to perform to a higher standard with the bat as a team unit if they are to end this run of defeats.
The winning margin was 16 runs (DLS) on Tuesday and Ireland once again showed that they are on a different level to their hosts. The rain meant that the depth of Ireland’s batting was not required but Amy Hunter, Gaby Lewis and Orla Prendergast showed their class.
After scoring 75 on Monday, Orla Prendergast looked on track for another big score when the rain arrived. She was 17 not out from eight balls and is still yet to be dismissed in this series. All three batters used by Ireland had strike-rates above 114.
21 year old spinner, Cara Murray, bounced back from going wicketless in the opening game of the series to take 2-20 from her three overs. There was also a wicket apiece for Arlene Kelly and Laura Delany but it was Ireland’s fielding which caught the eye as they pulled off three run-outs.
Ireland have been far stronger than Scotland in both games and they will be very confident of registering their third successive victory in this fixture.
The match will be played at The Grange Club, Edinburgh. The surface was slower in Tuesday’s game and hitting boundaries was harder with a wet outfield. A par score in this match will be around 150.
