Rocks are favorites to win
Rocks will take on Western Province at Senwes Park, Potchefstroom. Match 4 of the CSA T20 Challenge gets underway at 18:00 local time on Tuesday, October 18th.
The defending CSA T20 Challenge Champions get their title defence underway in this match. Although they won only four of seven games in the group stage and finished in fourth, they won all matches in the play-offs including the final against Titans by 15 runs.
33 year old right-handed opener Pieter Malan hit five half-centuries and 368 runs in total on the journey to winning the competition in February. No other player across any side scored more runs than Malan who enjoyed partnerships with his brother, Janneman, who hit 202 runs.
Ziyaad Abrahams and Shaun von Berg both took 12 wickets for Rocks across the games in February. However, Abrahams is not in the squad for this campaign and all eyes will instead be on 21 year old Achille Cloete who is a genuine fast bowler.
Rocks had a poor start in February but won four of their final five games on the way to the title.
After winning five of their seven group stage games, Western Province finished in second place with 22 points, two behind Titans at the top of the table. However, they were well beaten by Rocks in the semi-final, going down by seven wickets.
Dane Vilas was the leading run scorer for Western Province in the last competition but will not represent them in this campaign. 21 year old left-hander Jonathan Bird hit a half-century and there will be pressure on him to deliver more in this game.
Leg-spinner Junaid Dawood was one of the standout bowlers earlier this year and took 12 wickets at an average of 13.25. Left-arm pace bowler Beuran Hendricks would have hoped to have been in the South Africa T20 World Cup squad but instead will focus on adding to the 10 wickets he took in February.
Western Province were the top team for a long period in February but lost their last three matches.
The match will be played at Senwes Park, Potchefstroom. We expect a par score of 180+ on this quick wicket which will also deliver plenty of bounce for the bowlers.
