Melbourne Stars, when they win the bat flip, prefer to field first and are due to win the toss after being asked to bat first on the last couple of occasions.
Read on for team previews, betting tips, latest odds and match prediction for Perth Scorchers vs Melbourne Stars, Big Bash League.
Clint Hinchcliffe made his Big Bash League debut last time out and fit-again Josh Inglis returned to the team as Perth turned to their younger players. David Willey (shoulder) and Ashton Agar (dislocated finger) are out for the rest of the tournament and Jhye Richardson is in the Australian test team, but Nathan Coulter-Nile is expected to recover from a minor hamstring injury.
While Perth boasting a batting line-up that contains Shaun and Mitchell Marsh, Cameron Bancroft and Ashton Turner, it has been Nick Hobson who has top-scored in their last two matches. The 24-year-old has scored 15*, 19 and 43 in his three Big Bash innings after making his debut last month.
Bancroft has been in good form since returning from his ball-tampering ban, however, hitting 232 runs in nine innings, while Turner is their leading run scorer with 309. Shaun Marsh marked his return from international duty with an unbeaten 96 from 55 balls on his first appearance of the season.
With the ball, Andrew Tye has taken nine wickets in his last two appearances against Adelaide Strikers, including 4-18 in this year's fixture to lead the Scorchers to victory. He has 14 wickets so far this season, though he took some punishment from Chris Lynn against Brisbane Heat.
Jason Behrendorff and Nathan Coulter-Nile have both taken nine wickets in the tournament so far, meanwhile.
Perth Scorchers' four-match losing streak has seen them drop to the bottom of the points table. It started with a four-wicket defeat to Hobart Hurricanes, when they failed to defend a total of 177/9 - losing in the final over.
It went down to the final over against Sydney Thunder too, after Shaun Marsh smashed an unbeaten 96 on his first appearance of the season in a total of 181/4. The Thunder claimed a four-wicket win with four balls remaining, however.
Against Melbourne Renegades, the Scorchers collapsed to 12/4 after the six-over powerplay and were 79 all out to suffer a 78-run defeat and they only managed 128/9 last time out too, against Brisbane Heat. The Heat claimed a six-wicket win with 2.3 overs remaining.

Melbourne Stars were looking likely to be without Marcus Stoinis for this game, but he has not forced his way into the Australian test team - having been in the squad - and so he should be free to play for the Stars. It means the Stars could be unchanged for the fourth consecutive game.
Marcus Stoinis has returned from the ODI series against India in red-hot form in the Big Bash League. He scored an unbeaten 70 and took 3-19 against Melbourne Renegades, before hitting 53 and taking 3-20 against Adelaide Strikers. Last time out, he scored 43 against Brisbane Heat and took 4-21. He now has 14 wickets from seven innings - ten of which have come in those last three games - and 312 runs at an average of 62.40.
Opening partner Ben Dunk is also in good nick, having scored 62 when these teams last met and an unbeaten 72 in the win against Adelaide Strikers. He now has 259 runs from his 11 innings.
Peter Handscomb and Glenn Maxwell are back in the middle order after international duty, meanwhile. Both will want to get back in the runs, with their batting credentials well known.
While Stoinis is now their leading bowler, meanwhile, Dwayne Bravo also has 14 wickets in the tournament and Liam Plunkett has taken 11 in seven games.
Melbourne Stars have bounced back from three consecutive defeats with three wins in a row, thanks to Marcus Stoinis' inspired all-round form. He took 3-19 to restrict Melbourne Renegades to 121 all out in the Victoria derby before hitting an unbeaten 70 in a six-wicket win and the Stars have not looked back since.
Next up, he claimed 3-20, Liam Plunkett took 3-21 and Dwayne Bravo 3-22 as they bowled the Adelaide Strikers out for 123 in reply to 167 - Stoinis (53) having shared a 113-run opening stand with Ben Dunk (72*).
And last time out, against Brisbane Heat, the Stoinis show continued. He top-scored with 43 with the bat in a total of 134/8 and then claimed 4-21 from his four overs to restrict the Heat to 129/8. The Heat had only needed 24 from 21 balls with six wickets remaining before Stoinis and Dwayne Bravo turned it around with some economical bowling.

Perth Scorchers have won their last three matches against Melbourne Stars and now have seven wins in 13 previous games against them compared to the Stars' six. Last season's only fixture was on Boxing Day, when Hilton Cartwright's half-century and Andrew Tye's 5-23 from four overs helped the Scorchers to a 13-run win defending 142/6.
This season, meanwhile, with both sides missing their international players, Ben Dunk scored 62 in a total of 146/6, with Andrew Tye claiming 4-18, but Cameron Bancroft (59) and Ashton Turner (43*) led the Scorchers to a six-wicket win with 2.2 overs remaining.
Melbourne Stars are a best price of 1.67 with Betfair to beat Perth Scorchers, while Bet365 are offering 1.57. The Scorchers are as high as 2.37 with the latter.
Marcus Stoinis' availability could be key. He is 3.50 to top score for the Stars with Bet365 and he and Ben Dunk could also post the highest opening partnership with both in good form - the Stars' openers outscoring the Scorchers' openers returns 2.00 with Betfair.
Perth's issue in the last two matches has been their all-star top order failing to take advantage of the power play and Melbourne Stars are 1.72 to top score in the first six overs as a result.
With Stoinis in superb all-round form, meanwhile, it is no surprise to see he is just 6.50 with Bet365 to be named man of the match.
Melbourne Stars have charged up the table to put themselves into contention for a semi-final spot and can continue their resurgence by beating the struggling Perth Scorchers.
Final Verdict: Back Melbourne Stars to beat Perth Scorchers at 1.73 with Betfair and 1.72 with Bet365.
