Perth Scorchers Team News & Playing 11

PRS Team News

Mitchell Marsh has been dropped by Australia, meaning the Scorchers could welcome their captain back to the side. Who he replaces remains to be seen, but nobody has consistently performed so far. David Willey could be the man to make way, given he bowled just one over last time out and scored seven runs from 12 balls opening the batting. Veteran batsman Michael Klinger has also failed to impress so far, despite a couple of 20s sandwiching his three single-digit scores. Cameron Bancroft has returned from his ban for his part in the ball tampering scandal, with Josh Inglis unlucky to be the man to make way as the disgraced Aussie international took the gloves.

PRS Key Players

While he has been out of form for the Australian test squad, Mitchell Marsh’s return could be the lift Perth Scorchers need with the bat. The Scorchers’ batsmen have simply not scored quickly enough in this year’s tournament.

Cameron Bancroft is also back in action – he ended last year’s Big Bash League in good shape, before his career was turned upside down by the ball tampering scandal several weeks later. If he can recapture his best form, he will be valuable in the top order.

Hilton Cartwright has scored runs so far, including a half-century in the defeat to Sydney Sixers, while Ashton Turner – stand-in captain in place of Marsh – smashed 60 from 36 balls last time out, which ended up only just short of leading the Scorchers to an unlikely victory against Sydney Thunder.

There has been better news with the ball, however – Jason Behrendorff claimed his seventh wicket of the tournament so far when he took 1-21 from three overs last time out, while Ashton Agar claimed 2-27. Jhye Richardson took 3-7 from three overs in the previous match at the Optus Stadium, meanwhile and has claimed 1-22 and 1-19 since, showing impressive control and economy with the ball.

PRS Team Form

Perth Scorchers started this year’s Big Bash League with two defeats and, after some brief respite against Adelaide Strikers, have lost two from two since as well. Scoring runs has been their big problem, and they were dismissed for just 103 in their first game – a four-wicket defeat with 4.4 overs to spare against Melbourne Renegades.

They reached 147/8 in reply to 164/4 in their second game, against Sydney Sixers, despite Hilton Cartwright’s half-century, but their bowlers led them to victory against Adelaide – dismissing the visitors for just 88 from 17.2 overs. Jhye Richardson claimed 3-7 from three overs in that game, before Will Bosisto’s unbeaten 36 anchored the reply in a seven-wicket win.

More slow scoring followed, however – a total of 107/8 was never going to be enough in a six-wicket defeat to Hobart Hurricanes and they looked to be heading for a similarly low score at 54/5 from 11.1 overs in reply to Sydney Thunder’s 142/6 last time out. Ashton Turner smashed 60 from 36 balls to lead an unlikely comeback, but 18 runs from the last over was not quite enough – the Scorchers finishing just one run short.

Perth Scorchers Predicted Playing 11

Mitchell Marsh, Cameron Bancroft, David Willey, Ashton Turner, Hilton Cartwright, Ashton Agar, William Bosisto, Nathan Coulter-Nile, Jhye Richardson, Andrew Tye, Jason Behrendorff

Brisbane Heat Team News & Playing 11

BRH Team News

James Pattinson returned last time out, after missing the previous game for personal reasons. He replaced Mark Steketee in the squad for that game, having initially been replaced by Josh Lalor himself. Alex Ross was in the squad but did not play against Sydney Sixers – that could change, however, as Sam Heazlett is under pressure after four runs in three innings so far.

BRH Key Players

Chris Lynn started this year’s Big Bash League with scores of 33 and 29 in his first two games and the Brisbane Heat captain and Australian international kicked on in style last time out – scoring five sixes in his 84 from 55 balls. Only two other batsmen reached double figures for the Heat in that game.

Max Bryant (34 from 18 balls at the top of the order) was one of those, having got the innings off to a lightning-fast start. The teenager has been consistent so far too, with scores of 22 and 30 in the first two games.

Brisbane will now hope Brendon McCullum can get back to his best form, with a wealth of T20 franchise experience to his name. His most recent stints include hitting the 51st T20 half-century of his career during the Afghanistan Premier League. Ben Cutting is another to have enjoyed T20 experience across the globe. The all-rounder has two wickets so far but also hit 58 in the game against Hobart Hurricanes with the bat. The bowling is led by James Pattinson – who took 2-23 in the first game – and Mujeeb ur Rahman, meanwhile. The Afghanistan spinner, who also set a new BBL record when he scored 27 batting at number 11 in the first game, will play his 50th T20 game, having taken 51 wickets in his previous 49.

BRH Team Form

Brisbane Heat have started this year’s Big Bash League with three defeats from three games. The tail-enders helped them recover from 101/9 to 146 all out on the opening night of this year’s tournament, but they fell to a five-wicket defeat to Adelaide Strikers. Then, against HobartHurricanes, Ben Cutting’s half-century could not prevent them being dismissed for just 144 in reply to 159/6, in a match reduced to 19 overs per side.

A nine-day break between Brisbane Heat fixtures followed but they could not end their search for a win last time out. Chris Lynn smashed 84 in a total of 164/7 but the Sydney Sixers chased it down to win by five wickets with three balls to spare.

Brisbane Heat Predicted Playing 11

Brendon McCullum, Max Bryant, Chris Lynn, Joe Burns, Alex Ross, Ben Cutting, Jimmy Peirson, James Pattinson, Josh Lalor, Mitchell Swepson, Mujeeb Ur Rahman.

Perth Scorchers vs Brisbane Heat Head to Head

This will be the tenth match between Perth Scorchers and Brisbane Heat, with the Scorchers having won five of the previous nine. The most recent of Brisbane’s four wins came in last year’s match at the Gabba, however. Chris Lynn, Brendon McCullum, Joe Burns and Ben Cutting all made useful contributions in a total of 191/6 from their 20 overs and Mark Steketee and Brendan Doggett shared eight wickets between them as the Scorchers reply never got going – they were eventually dismissed for 142 from 19 overs.

Perth Scorchers vs Brisbane Heat Betting Odds

With Brisbane Heat short of form, Perth Scorchers are big favourites with the bookmakers – Bet365 are offering 1.72 on a Perth Scorchers win, while Betway have priced them at 1.70. Brisbane Heat are 2.10 with the former, by contrast.

Perth have lacked runs so far, but the return of Mitchell Marsh could be key – he is 6.00 to be their top batsman with Betfair, while Ashton Turner – who hit form spectacularly last time out – is 4.50. Turner is likely to be promoted up the order after his heroics almost led the Scorchers to an unlikely comeback.

For Brisbane, their star man is clear – and Chris Lynn was at it again last time out as he scored 84. He is 3.00 with Betfair to be their top batsman.

🏆 Perth Scorchers vs Brisbane Heat Prediction

Brisbane Heat continue to look for their first win but a trip to Perth, to face a Scorchers team boosted by the availability of captain Mitchell Marsh, could mean that run goes on.

Final Verdict: Back Perth Scorchers to beat Brisbane Heat at 1.72 with Bet365 and 1.70 with Betway.
