Pakistan women are favorites to win
Pakistan Women will take on UAE Women at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium Ground 2. Match 17 in the Round-robin stage of the 2022 Women’s Asia Cup gets underway on Sunday 9th October at 13:30 local time.
It has been a rollercoaster of a few days for Pakistan Women who suffered a shock defeat to Thailand Women on Thursday but bounced back the following day to beat their rivals India Women by 13 runs on Friday. They are in second place, level on points with India Women at the top of the table.
Nida Dar took the Player of the Match Award in the win over India Women with 56 not out from 37 balls. It was an excellent innings under pressure and included five fours and one six. Sidra Ameen (134 runs) is their leading run scorer in the tournament.
After hitting an unbeaten 56 with the bat, Nida Dar then recorded figures of 2-23 taking the big wickets of Jemimah Rodrigues and captain Harmanpreet Kaur. Nashra Sandhu was the best bowler against India Women and took 3-30.
No one expected the defeat against Thailand Women or the win over India Women. Pakistan Women can be inconsistent but are challenging at the top..
It has been a tough tournament for UAE Women who are competing in their first Women’s Asia Cup. They have lost three matches but did pick up their first win in the competition when they beat Malaysia Women by seven wickets on Wednesday.
18 year old keeper-batter Theertha Satish hit 62 not out against Malaysia Women but has scored a combined seven runs in the surrounding two games. Kavisha Egodage is the only other UAE Women’s player to have scored over 60 runs so far in the tournament.
UAE Women have taken 22 wickets across the four matches with their most dismissals, nine, coming in their opening match defeat against Sri Lanka Women. Their leading wicket taker in the competition is 16 year old medium pacer Mahika Gaur who has taken five wickets for 94 runs.
UAE Women were too strong for Malaysia Women but have found all their other three opponents at least one level above them so far at the Asia Cup.
The match will be played at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium Ground 2. The highest team total on this pitch is 181-4 but any total over 150 should be defendable.

Pakistan Women have been unpredictable over the last two games but it would be an even bigger shock than their defeat against Thailand Women if they were to lose again. We predict that UAE Women will be tough opponents, but we expect Pakistan Women to be full of confidence after Friday’s win and to get the victory.
