South Africa U-19 are favourites to win
Northern Cape will take on South Africa U-19s at Buffalo Park, East London. The CSA Provincial T20 Cup 2022/23 Final begins at 14:00 local time on Sunday 9th October.
After finishing top of Pool B with eight points, Northern Cape made it two wins in a row by defeating Tuskers in the Semi-Final 1 on Saturday. They posted 142-5 from their 20 overs before restricting Tuskers to 125-9 in a fine bowling display.
Experienced middle-order batter Grant Thomson was the hero for Northern Cape on Saturday. He came to the wicket with his side in trouble on 25-3 but went on to score 54 not out from 36 balls. He hit five fours, two sixes and shared a partnership of 71 with Hanu Viljoen for the fifth wicket.
The wickets have been shared out by Northern Cape across both of their completed fixtures and Saturday’s victory was no different. Juan Landsberg was the only one of six bowlers to not pick up at least one wicket with Andrew Rasemene taking 3-27.
Northern Cape saw their first two games washed out by the weather but are now targeting their third successive victory to win the tournament.
With a 100% record from their three games in Pool A, South Africa U-19s maintained their perfect record in the campaign with a four wicket victory over Eastern Cape on Saturday afternoon. The U-19s won their previous games by margins of five wickets, 15 runs and 81 runs.
Keeper-batter Ronan Hermann top scored in the semi-final win with 44 runs from 26 balls. He hit four fours and two sixes and got his side off to an excellent start at the top of the order. Abdullah Bouyamy hit successive fours to win the game and confirm their place in this final.
Spinner Liam Alder has had an excellent year and has been the standout bowler across all teams in this tournament. He took 2-25, and bowled the only maiden of the game on Saturday, to take his tally up to nine wickets for the campaign. Matthew Boast took his 7th and 8th wickets in the semi-final.
No team has been able to stop South Africa U-19s in the competition and they are full of confidence.
The match will be played at Buffalo Park, East London. Any score over 150 will be very competitive and we expect the pace-off bowlers to be the hardest to face on this pitch.

The lack of group games for Northern Cape was no issue in Saturday’s semi-final as they put in a fine display where their victory over Tuskers was never really in doubt. However, this match will be a far tougher proposition. We expect South Africa U-19’s to make it five wins from five and to win this final
