Surrey are favorites to win
Middlesex and Surrey bid for the capital’s bragging rights as they meet for a second time in this year’s Vitality T20 Blast. The South Group fixtures takes place at Lord’s on September 14 and the live action starts at 18:15 local time.
Middlesex have Steven Eskinazi in good batting form and he top-scored in their win against Hampshire last time out – a second win so far, to accompany a tie and two defeats. They were poor with the bat when these two last met, however, as they posted just 113/9 at the Oval.
Surrey chased that down for the loss of four wickets with 11 balls to spare, as Ben Foakes hit 60* from 50 balls. They have played just once since then, but Laurie Evans’ 88* from 52 balls helped them chase 196 to beat Essex Eagles by four wickets in a last-ball thriller. Their third win of the tournament puts them third in the table.
Stephen Eskinazi, Max Holden, Dan Lincoln, Jack Davies, Martin Andersson, John Simpson (wk), Tom Helm, Nathan Sowter, Miguel Cummins, Steven Finn (c), Tim Murtagh
Will Jacks, Hashim Amla, Laurie Evans, Ben Foakes (wk), Rory Burns, Jamie Smith, Gus Atkinson, Jamie Overton, Gareth Batty (c), Daniel Moriarty, Reece Topley
Surrey were dominant when these teams last met and, having overcome their initial struggles when they were severely short of players, they are flying now. With Middlesex inconsistent and very reliant on Steven Eskinazi’s batting at the moment, Surrey can make it two London Derby wins in this year’s competition.
