Read on for team previews, betting tips, latest odds, and match prediction for Middlesex vs Essex, Vitality T20 Blast 2023
Although the results have been poor throughout this campaign, Middlesex have been competitive in each of their last three matches with defeats by only 5 runs, 4 runs and finally by 13 runs to Kent Spitfires on Friday evening. Middlesex are bottom of the South Group, six points behind the team in 8th.
Skipper Steve Eskinazi has been Middlesex’s most reliable source of runs in the 2023 Vitality Blast but it was 25 year old left-handed batter Max Holden who hit 121 not out against the Spitfires on Friday. Ryan Higgins has also contributed useful runs across the tournament.
Taking wickets has proved to be a real issue for Middlesex across the competition and they once again did not have enough quality in the bowling department as they took only three wickets against Kent Spitfires in their last game. Tom Helm and Blake Cullen have been their most reliable bowlers ahead of this match.
Defeat in this game will see Middlesex lose their 10th match from 10 games in the 2023 T20 Blast. However, recent performances have been more encouraging than previous losses.
Stephen Eskinazi (c), Joe Cracknell, Ryan Higgins, Max Holden, John Simpson (wk), Jack Davies, Luke Hollman, Martin Andersson, Josh De Caires, Tom Helm, Blake Cullen
Another win for the Eagles over Glamorgan on Friday saw them move into 3rd place in the South Group and they are now only two points behind the leaders Surrey and Somerset. The Eagles have played Glamorgan in their last two matches and will be very confident ahead of this clash with Middlesex.
On Friday evening, there were golden ducks for opener Robin Das and number three batter Michael Pepper as the Eagles chased 176 for victory. However, 61 runs from 37 balls from Feroze Khushi at the top of the order alongside 43 from Paul Walter and 41 from Daniel Sams got the Eagles home.
Only Sam Cook and Paul Walter went wicketless on Friday evening for Essex but they were both two of the most economical bowlers for their side. Captain, spinner Simon Harmer, took 2-43, and Essex continue to have good variety in their bowling attack.
Essex Eagles have lost only two matches so far in the tournament and are targeting their fifth successive victory in this match.
Feroze Khushi, Robin Das, Michael-Kyle Pepper, Josh Rymell, Paul Walter, Matthew Critchley, Daniel Sams, William Buttleman (wk), Simon Harmer (c), Shane Snater, Sam Cook
Middlesex have shown some character and fight in recent games but actually getting over the winning line is still proving to be too much for them in this competition. Max Holden produced a brilliant innings on Friday but we think Essex Eagles will be too good. Our prediction is for Essex Eagles to make it five wins in a row.
