Who will win Loughborough Lightning vs Southern Vipers, WCSL 2019?
Loughborough Lightning stormed into another finals day with an excellent run of form, winning their final six league games to charge up the table into second place and ensure they go into this semi-final as favourites against the Southern Vipers.
With Western Storm awaiting the winner in the final later that day, the semi-final takes place at the County Ground, Hove, on September 1 and is scheduled to start at 12:00 local time.
The Vipers, meanwhile, have limped into finals day – they lost four of their last five games, including their final match of the group stage when the Lightning bowled them out for 127. They need to step it up if they are to reach the final.
Loughborough know they should be wary of the form book, however – they were in excellent form going into last season’s final, only to collapse to 117 all out. They need to have proved they have learned their lessons from that defeat.

LBL vs SV Toss Prediction
The two teams have won one toss apiece in their league matches this season, though the end result was the same – Loughborough batting first. The Lightning have lost their last five tosses, so they are due to win this one.
LBL vs SV Weather Report
While it could be cooler than it has been and partly cloudy too, the weather forecast crucially is for no rain in Hove on Sunday. A small coastal wind could make an impact, but there is not too much cloud cover to worry the batsmen either.
LBL vs SV Pitch Condition
Hove will host Sussex on Friday before this fixture, but the wicket is normally a good, balanced strip which neither favours the batsmen nor the bowlers. It is a good wicket for finals day, therefore.

Loughborough Lightning Team News & Playing 11
LBL Team News
Loughborough Lightning will be without Hayley Matthews and Kathryn Bryce, who have both departed for international duty. Shabnim Ismail was signed as Matthews’ replacement but did not feature last time out. If she does feature, it leaves two places for Lucy Higham, Joanne Gardner and Amy Freeborn to compete for. Freeborn’s batting ability could swing it her way, while Higham was selected for seven of the group games.
LBL Key Players
Mignon du Preez: Produced some big innings to lead Loughborough to success as they turned their season around during the league phase. The South African has scored 246 runs in eight innings in total, at a strike rate of 144.70.
Amy Jones: The England wicket-keeper-batsman finished the group stage in excellent form, hitting 66* and 74* in the last two games to get back to her best form. She hit 300 runs in the group stage in total.
Kirstie Gordon: Finished the league phase with ten wickets from nine innings, at little over a run a ball too, having also been the top wicket-taker last season too.
LBL Team Form
Loughborough Lightning won just one of their first four games but then finished the group stage with six wins in a row.
After Mignon du Preez top-scored in a five-wicket win against Surrey Stars to seal their semi-final place, Amy Jones took charge with the bat as they continued their excellent form in their last two games. Jones hit 66 as the Lightning comfortably chased 123 to beat Lancashire Thunder by eight wickets, before they finished the group stage with a 36-run win against Southern Vipers – Jones scoring 74 in a total of 163/4 before Chamari Atapattu’s 3-18 helped bowl the Vipers out for 127.
Loughborough Lightning Predicted Playing 11
Amy Jones (wk), Chamari Atapattu, Mignon du Preez, Georgia Adams, Georgia Elwiss (c), Amy Freeborn, Jenny Gunn, Shabnim Ismail, Sarah Glenn, Lucy Higham, Kirstie Gordon
Southern Vipers Team News & Playing 11
SV Team News
Isi Wong and Carla Rudd came into the team for the final group game, replacing Charlotte Dean and Lauren Bell. Bell is likely to return for the semi-final, despite Wong picking up her first wicket. Stafanie Taylor is, like Matthews, back home for international duty which does leave one place for one of Wong and Rudd. Rudd has featured in more games.
SV Key Players
Danni Wyatt: Though she was out for a duck in the final group game, her previous four innings had proved she was back to her best – scoring 110, 56, 59 and 42. The England ace finished the group stage with 362 runs at a strike rate of 163.80.
Amy-Jade Wellington: A relatively late addition as overseas player, but Wellington has proved her worth with 11 wickets in the group stage from nine matches. That includes 2-22 when these teams met in the final group game.
Tammy Beaumont: Finished the group stage with 182 runs from nine innings, but the England batsman’s potential is well known, albeit she has tended to prefer WODI cricket – if she starts firing she can really ignite the Vipers’ innings as she looks to add to her one half-century so far in this season’s competition.
SV Team Form
Southern Vipers limped through the end of the group stage, losing four of their last five games. They held their nerve to beat Yorkshire Diamonds by three runs, defending just 127/9 despite Danni Wyatt’s half-century, but lost two in a row thereafter.
Against the Diamonds again, they posted 184/4 at York but lost by four wickets off the final ball, and they finished the league phase with a heavy defeat to Lougborough Lightning – the Lightning posted 163/4 and the Vipers folded for 127 in reply.
Southern Vipers Predicted Playing 11
