Lancashire Lightning vs Yorkshire Vikings Vitality T20 Blast 2020

As well as Roses glory, Lancashire Lightning can book their place in the 2020 Vitality T20 Blast quarter-finals if they once again overcome Roses rivals Yorkshire Vikings when they meet at Old Trafford Cricket Ground. The match, on September 17, gets underway at 18:35 local time.

Lancashire’s win against Yorkshire last time out, chasing 146 to win in just 17.5 overs, was their fourth win in five completed games so far. Their only defeat has come against table-topping Nottinghamshire Outlaws and they will be bolstered by the return of Saqib Mahmood too.

Yorkshire Vikings have Dawid Malan back but have been frustrated by the unavailability of David Willey, Josh Poysden, Matt Fisher and Tom Kohler-Cadmore under medical guidelines. It was an unexpected blow and they have suffered back-to-back defeats without them. They do, however, welcome Joe Root and Adil Rashid back.

Lancashire Lightning Team News

With Liam Livingstone already back, Lancashire will be handed another boost with Saqib Mahmood adding to the bowling attack. Jos Buttler remains unavailable as he is setting off straight from England duty for the IPL, while Keaton Jennings and Richard Gleeson are injured.

Lancashire Lightning Key Players

  • Liam Livingstone: Could have been a little rusty, having suffered a lack of match practice due to being on England’s reserve list, but he is capable of plenty up the order in T20 cricket.
  • Alex Davies: Scored 65, 82, 36 and 86 in his first four innings in this year’s tournament and the wicket-keeper-batsman will be keen to get straight back to that form.
  • Matt Parkinson: Claimed the man of the match award after his 3-25 last time out, he has 72 wickets in 43 T20 innings in his career – seven of which have arrived this season.

Lancashire Lightning Team Form

Lancashire Lightning’s only defeat so far came against high-flying Nottinghamshire when they failed to defend 167/5, but they bounced back by beating Yorkshire last time out. Luke Wood (3-21) and Matt Parkinson (3-25) helped restrict the Vikings to 145/9 and Lancashire stormed to a six-wicket win in just 17.5 overs.

Lancashire Predicted Playing 11

Alex Davies (wk), Liam Livingstone, Steven Croft, Dane Vilas (c), Josh Bohanon, Rob Jones, Luke Wood, Tom Bailey, Saqib Mahmood, Tom Hartley, Matt Parkinson

LANCS vs YORKS Dream11 Team Prediction, Captain, Vice Captain

  • Wicket-keeper(s):

    With Jonny Bairstow and Jos Buttler both jetting straight off to the IPL, you can rule those two out straight away. The stand-out choice is Alex Davies, who has been in excellent form up the order for Lancashire.

  • Batsmen: Dawid Malan’s return is big news for Yorkshire, while Joe Root is also back and was in top form earlier in the tournament. With Keaton Jennings injured and Tom Kohler-Cadmore out on medical grounds, there are few other choices though Will Fraine looks good value at 8.5 credits.

  • All-rounder(s):

    Lancashire’s top batsmen, alongside Davies, are among their all-rounders. Liam Livingstone has waited no time making an impression on this tournament, while Steven Croft remains a key batsman and is likely to open the bowling and turn his arm for an over or two. Adam Lyth is 9.5 credits and a key man up the order for Yorkshire as a well as another who can turn his arm to useful effect. Jordan Thompson is good value at 8.5 credits, meanwhile.

  • Bowlers:

    Matt Parkinson is a wicket-taker but may be too expensive at nine credits, especially as you can compensate by selecting the returning Saqib Mahmood, as well as in-form Tom Bailey. It leaves eight credits and Yorkshire have Ben Coad in that price bracket.

  • Captain/vice-captain:

    If he rediscovers the batting form he showed at the start of this tournament, Alex Davies could be a good pick for at least vice-captain. Liam Livingstone will bowl too, meanwhile, and Joe Root is in the same boat should he play for Yorkshire. As Lancashire are favourites, Livingstone may be the top pick.

LAN vs YOR Dream11 Team Prediction

  • Batsmen:Alex Davies (vc)

  • All Rounder:Dawid Malan, Joe Root, Will Fraine

  • Wicket Keeper:Liam Livingstone (c), Steven Croft, Adam Lyth, Jordan Thompson

  • Bowler:Saqib Mahmood, Tom Bailey, Ben Coad

Yorkshire Team News & Playing 11

Yorkshire Vikings Team News

Yorkshire Vikingswill be without David Willey, Tom Kohler-Cadmore, Matt Fisher and Josh Poysden on medical grounds, but Dawid Malan has already returned to the team and Joe Root and Adil Rashid could join him for this game. Jonny Bairstow is jetting off to the IPL, however.

Yorkshire Vikings Key Players

  • Dawid Malan: Scored 27 from 24 balls last time out, but his excellent England form means he sits top of the world T20i rankings at the moment.
  • Adam Lyth: With no Kohler-Cadmore, the onus is on the stand-in captain to score the runs Yorkshire need at the top of the order.
  • Joe Root: Has something to the prove to the England selectors in T20 cricket, but has scored 64, 65 and 25 in his three innings in this competition so far and taken four wickets.

Yorkshire Vikings  Team Form

Yorkshire Vikings have lost their last three matches in a row, including the Roses defeat when these teams last met. Since that game, they have also lost heavily to Durham, despite bowling them out for 147. They collapsed with the bat in reply, slumping to just 104.

Yorkshire Predicted Playing 11

Adam Lyth (c), Dawid Malan, Joe Root, Jonathan Tattersall, Will Fraine, George Hill, Jordan Thompson, Adil Rashid, Ben Coad, Duanne Olivier, Jack Shutt
