Kings XI Punjab Team News & Playing 11
KXIP Team News
Kings XI Punjab made three changes to their side for the previous game against Sunrisers Hyderabad, dropping Mandeep Singh, Hardus Viljoen and Ankit Rajpoot for Simran Singh, Mujeeb Ur Rahman and Arshdeep Singh respectively. While Arshdeep and Mujeeb are expected to be retained, Mandeep could be brought back for this must-win clash against the Kolkata Knight Riders. The home team might also consider bringing Sam Curran in place of an under-performing David Miller as he provides an extra batting option as well. Meanwhile, KXIP have lost their Rs 8.4 crore signing Varun Chakravarthy due to injury. The mystery spinner hurt himself last month in Chennai and he has been ruled out of the remainder of the IPL 2019.
KXIP Key Players
The opening pair of KL Rahul and Chris Gayle holds the key for Kings XI Punjab as far as their batting is concerned. These two are amongst the tournament's top five batsmen with 520 and 448 runs respectively. Rahul has hit a century and five half-centuries and is coming off a magnificent 79 against Sunrisers Hyderabad. Mayank Agarwal and David Miller (if not replaced by Sam Curran), both of whom smashed twin fifties in the reverse fixture, will be holding fort in the middle-order. Mohammed Shami and skipper Ravichandran Ashwin have been KXIP's most impressive bowlers this IPL and they will pose the main threat to the KKR batsmen. While Shami has 16 wickets from 12 matches, Ashwin has 14 at a decent economy rate of 7.21. Both took a couple of wickets each in the last game and are expected to be amongst the wickets in this match as well. Mujeeb Ur Rahman has looked flat this season but he has the ability to deceive the batsmen with his off-breaks.
KXIP Recent Form
Kings XI Punjab have played 12 matches so far in this year's Indian Premier League out of which they have won 5 and lost 7 and they currently find themselves seventh in the league standings with 10 points. They started their campaign quite nicely with three wins from their first four matches but have lost their way towards the back-end of the tournament. KXIP have now lost five of their last six games including the last three on the bounce. Their previous encounter was against Sunrisers Hyderabad which they lost by 45 runs.
Kings XI Punjab Predicted Playing 11
Lokesh Rahul, Chris Gayle, Mayank Agarwal, David Miller/Sam Curran, Mandeep Singh, Nicholas Pooran (wk), Ravichandran Ashwin (c), Murugan Ashwin, Mohammed Shami, Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Arshdeep Singh
Kolkata Knight Riders Team News & Playing 11
KKR Team News
Kolkata Knight Riders dropped Carlos Brathwaite, Yarra Prithviraj and Prasidh Krishna in their last match against the Mumbai Indians to bring in Harry Gurney, Sandeep Warrier and Robin Uthappa. KKR's decision to promote Shubman Gill to the opening position and Andre Russell to number three worked wonders for them last time which means they will probably stick with the same batting order. However, they might make a change in their bowling department as Piyush Chawla has not been able to stand up to the team’s expectations. Kuldeep Yadav, therefore, could return for this upcoming encounter against the Kings XI Punjab.
KKR Key Players
When talking of KKR's key players, Andre Russell is one name that immediately comes to mind. The West Indian has decimated bowling attacks this season with his ruthless hitting. He is currently third on the list of the tournament's top batsmen with 486 runs at an average of close to 70 and a strike-rate of around 208. Russell has not only delivered with the bat, but he is also one of the best bowlers for his side with 10 wickets from 12 matches. Chris Lynn and Shubman Gill, who was impressive in his knock of 45-ball 76 in the last game against Mumbai Indians, are two other key batsmen at the top while Dinesh Karthik and Nitish Rana are the ones to watch out for in this middle-order. Sunil Narine has taken 10 wickets in as many matches at an acceptable economy of 7.84 and he along with Kuldeep Yadav will be the go-to men for the Knight Riders when it comes to spin.
KKR Recent Form
Kolkata Knight Riders had suffered six successive defeats before they finally managed to put the brakes on their losing streak with a comprehensive 34-run victory over the Mumbai Indians at home in their last match. That win has kept them in contention for the play-offs and they would now have to win their remaining two fixtures in order to have a chance of finishing in the top four. With five wins and seven losses from twelve matches, KKR are lying at the sixth spot on the IPL 2019 points table.
Kolkata Knight Riders Predicted Playing 11
Shubman Gill, Chris Lynn, Andre Russell, Dinesh Karthik (c/wk), Sunil Narine, Robin Uthappa, Nitish Rana, Rinku Singh, Kuldeep Yadav, Sandeep Warrier, Harry Gurney

KXIP vs KKR Prediction
This will be a high-pressure game for KXIP and KKR as both need to win their remaining two fixtures in order to have any chance of making it past the league stage. But while the home team has faced defeats in its previous three games, the visitors are coming off the back of a comprehensive win over the Mumbai Indians. The Knight Riders also have the upper hand in terms of head-to-head record, beating Kings XI Punjab 10 times in their last 12 encounters which includes the convincing 28-run victory at the Eden Gardens earlier this season.
KXIP, however, have the home advantage in their favor. They have played five matches so far at this ground this IPL and have won four of those while KKR have lost three out of their five away games this season, including the last two. Kings XI Punjab will also gain confidence from the fact that they have beaten Kolkata Knight Riders twice in their last three attempts at this venue. Both the teams possess plenty of firepower in their batting department but it is the slightly superior bowling attack of the hosts that give them an edge over their opponents. KXIP will be playing at their fortress which is why we are backing them to win this match and keep themselves afloat in the competition.
Back Kings XI Punjab to beat Kolkata Knight Riders at 2 with Betway and Bet365.
