Neither side has had much luck with the toss, but Khulna Titans could look to bat first with their batsmen finding some form of late.

Khulna Titans continue to rotate their overseas players as they look to find a winning formula. Lasith Malinga dropped out last time, having been expensive in the previous game, as Junaid Khan returned, while Yasir Shah finally made his first appearance too – Paul Stirling making way. Brendan Taylor and David Wiese appear to have nailed down two of the four overseas players, however, with Junaid Khan making a good case for the third. It leaves Malinga, Shah and Stirling competing for one place.
Junaid Khan returned last time out and dismissed Chris Gayle in the penultimate over – his ninth wicket in four games of BPL 2019 – but could not seal victory for the Titans. Nevertheless, his bowling form is outstanding. He took 4-32 against Comilla Victorians and 3-26 against Rajshahi Kings too.
The overseas players have made useful contributions with the bat of late too – David Wiese scoring 40 from 20 against Chittagong Vikings and an unbeaten 35 from 15 balls against Rangpur Riders. Brendan Taylor, meanwhile, has hit 28 from 16 and 32 from 20 in his last two games.
The middle order, with Najmul Hossain Shanto and Mahmudullah in form, appears to be sorted – scoring runs has not been a problem in the last three games.
The issue has been with the ball instead, but Khan and Lasith Malinga – whether one plays or both – have the ability to bowl match-winning spells. The Titans need evidence of that now.
Khulna Titans lost all four matches in Dhaka but there have been signs of recovery since – including their first and only win at the start of the Sylhet phase of fixtures. Though restricted to 128/9 by the Rajshahi Kings, Taijul Islam’s 3-10 and Junaid Khan’s 3-26 saw the Kings dismissed for 103 in reply.
The batting has improved since, and Junaid Siddique hammered 70 from 41 balls in a total of 181/7 against Comilla Victorians. Junaid took 4-32 in reply, but they lost by three wickets with two balls remaining.
More expensive bowling led to Chittagong Vikings posting 214/4 in the Titans’ next match and they finished short on 188/8 despite Mahmudullah’s half-century. And, last time out, they could not defend 181/6 (after useful contributions from Brendan Taylor (32), Najmul Hossain Shanto (48) and David Wiese (35*) in the middle order). The Rangpur Riders reached the target with three balls to spare to win by six wickets.

David Warner has played his final game of this year’s BPL for Sylhet Sixers after returning home following an elbow injury. England opener Jason Roy has been drafted in to replace the Australian. With Imran Tahir unavailable, meanwhile, Wayne Parnell has been added to the line-up and could come in for Mohammad Irfan to provide better balance – the South African’s batting being far better than the Pakistani’s.
Liton Das scored 70 against Rangpur Riders and 27 from 14 balls against Dhaka Dynamites as his best batting form has returned, while Sabbir Rahman thumped 85 from 51 balls against Rangpur Riders last time out. With those two in form, and Jason Roy – who showed his big-hitting form with some brilliant batting in the T10 League, having starred for England against Sri Lanka before that – now in the line-up, the Sixers can make up for the loss of David Warner.
Further down the order, Nicolas Pooran returned to form last time out too. He scored 41, 52* and 72 in his first three innings and then scored an unbeaten 47 in the most recent game against Rangpur Riders after a small lean spell.
With the ball, Taskin Ahmed has taken 14 wickets so far, claiming 4-42 in the most recent game and 4-28 in the win against Chittagong Vikings earlier in the tournament too. Sandeep Lamichhane has four wickets so far and generally tight bowling figures and should relish Dhaka’s turning surface.
Sylhet Sixers’ struggles continued last time out, when they failed to defend 194/4 against Rangpur Riders’ big hitters. Sabbir Rahman’s 85 and Nicolas Pooran’s unbeaten 47 fired them to their big total but they lost in the final over despite Taskin Ahmed claiming four wickets.
It means they have won just one of their last five matches, having lost to Dhaka Dynamites in the match before that – David Warner hitting 63 from 43 balls in a total of 158/8 that proved well short, as they lost by six wickets with three overs remaining.
They did beat Rangpur Riders by 27 runs prior to that, as Liton Das hit 70 and Warner 61* in a total of 187/5, but that in itself was just a comeback from a dismal batting performance in the previous game, when they were bowled out for 68 by Comilla Victorians and lost by eight wickets.

Khulna Titans and Sylhet Sixers have met just once before, in the 2017 tournament, and the Titans came out on top. Nasir Hossain scored 47 not out as the Sixers set 135/5, and the Titans won by six wickets with two overs to spare despite Taijul Islam’s 3-19. The second match between the two that season was rained off.
Khulna Titans’ batting has improved significantly in recent matches and, with the Sylhet Sixers also struggling for results despite their own good batting line-up, this could be a chance for the Titans to record a rare win.
Final Verdict: Back Khulna Titans to beat Sylhet Sixers
