Comilla Victorians elected to field first in their most recent match, while the Titans batted first – both winning tactics in low-scoring games. Comilla may field first again this time, therefore.
Read on for team previews, betting tips, latest odds and match prediction for Khulna Titans vs Comilla Victorians, BPL 2019.
Paul Stirling made way as Khulna Titans shuffled the pack last time out to accommodate the return of South African all-rounder David Wiese, as the fourth overseas player alongside Dawid Malan, Carlos Brathwaite and Junaid Khan. It meant Jahurul Islam was promoted to open the batting on his return to the team, as he reclaimed the gloves from Mahidul Islam Ankon, who had made his T20 debut in the previous game.
Junaid Siddique is the only Khulna Titans batsman to pass 100 runs so far in BPL 2019, with runs having been hard to come by in their opening five games – even in victory last time out, they were defending a low score. Siddique has scored 121 runs with a high score of 33 in the opening game.
Dawid Malan’s arrival has provided some positives, however. He scored 45 in the tie with Chittagong Vikings and has four T20 international half-centuries in five innings so far for England.
With the ball, Junaid Khan has taken four wickets in two matches so far and remains an expert bowler at the death in T20 matches. Taijul Islam has five wickets, meanwhile, and a good economy rate of 5.75 runs per over. He was the star man last time out with 3-10 from four overs, while Mahumudullah – who is yet to show his best all-round form – claimed 2-12 including bowling a maiden.
Khulna Titans ended their search for a first win at the fifth attempt last time out, having started the tournament with four defeats from four in Dhaka. Their batting in particular let them down, as they fell eight runs short of Rangpur Riders’ 169 in the first match and were then bowled out for just 87 in reply to 192/6 next up.
A sluggish 117/9 followed in a seven-wicket defeat to Rajshahi Kings but there were signs of improvement in their match with Chittagong Vikings. After posting 151/6, the Titans were set for victory until they conceded three sixes in the final over of a thrilling tie. In the Super Over, with momentum lost, the Titans fell one run short.
The overdue finally did arrive last time, however, despite another below-par score of 128/9. The bowlers, led by Taijul Islam’s 3-10, did well to restrict Rajshahi Kings to 103 all out in 19.5 overs, however, to secure a 25-run win.
Jahurul Islam, Junaid Siddique, Dawid Malan, Mahmudullah, Najmul Hossain Shanto, Ariful Haque, Carlos Brathwaite, David Wiese, Taijul Islam, Shoriful Islam, Junaid Khan
Comilla Victorians shuffled the pack for the game against Sylhet Sixers. Evin Lewis is out with a hamstring injury, while Shamsur Rahman, Ziaur Rahman and Wahab Riaz all came into the starting XI. Thisara Perera had previously been thrown in for his first game in the previous match. After a comfortable victory, even with losing both openers for ducks, the team could be unchanged this time around.
Thisara Perera is a great addition for the Comilla Victorians after his arrival from Sri Lanka’s tour of New Zealand. He proved as much with a blistering, unbeaten 74 from 26 balls in his first game for the Victorians, having previously scored 43 in the T20 match in New Zealand and 140 and 80 in the ODI series.
Shahid Afridi had previously been the Victorians’ star man, scoring 75 runs across four innings and taking five wickets so far, with an economy rate of 5.20 runs per over.
Mohammad Saifuddin is their leading wicket taket so far with eight from five games, while Mahedi Hasan moved to seven after his 4-22 from four overs against Sylhet Sixers. Bowling has been the Victorians’ biggest strength so far, and Liam Dawson contributed 2-4 from three overs, while Wahab Riaz – in his first game of this year’s tournament – took 3-15 from 2.5 overs.
Comilla Victorians have been inconsistent so far. They successfully chased 127/8 to beat Sylhet Sixers by four wickets in their first game but were then bowled out for 63 as they lost to Rangpur Riders in their next game.
Against Rajshahi Kings, Shahid Afridi took 3-10 from four overs as the Victorians bowled them out for 124 and claimed a five-wicket win – Afridi hitting the match-winning six – but they were unable to defend their Thisara Perera-powered 184/5 in a four-wicket loss to Chittagong Vikings.
Last time out, their bowlers hit back again though – Mahedi Hasan claiming 4-22 as they bowled Sylhet Sixers out for 68 on their way to an eight-wicket win.
Anamul Haque, Tamim Iqbal, Shamsur Rahman, Imrul Kayes, Thisara Perera, Liam Dawson, Shahid Afridi, Mohammad Saifuddin, Ziaur Rahman, Mahedi Hasan, Wahab Riaz
In four previous matches, Comilla Victorians and Khulna Titans have each claimed two wins apiece. In 2017, the Victorians bowled Khulna out for 111 when they first met, on their way to a nine-wicket win – Tamim Iqbal leading the reply with an unbeaten 64 from 42 balls – but Khulna hit back in their next match. Najmul Hossain Shanto (37) and Ariful Haque (35) helped the Titans to 174/6, and an eventual 14-run victory.
Despite winning last time out, it is hard to get away from Khulna Titans’ poor batting and poor start to the 2019 Bangladesh Premier League. Comilla Victorians are 1.66 with Bet365 and 1.67 with Betfair and Betway to beat Khulna, whereas the Titans are 2.20 to win.
The Victorians are also 1.73 with Betfair to post the highest opening partnership – though their openers did fall short last time out, in one of the only negatives of their comfortable win against Sylhet Sixers.
Indeed, it is the Victorians’ bowlers who have impressed most. Wahab Riaz is 3.75 to be their top wicket taker, as is Shahid Afridi – both with Betfair.
Comilla Victorians’ bowlers were in excellent form in the first game in Sylhet and can out-gun the Titans’ bowlers – who also impressed in a rare Khulna win last time out.
Final Verdict: Back Comilla Victorians to beat Khulna Titans at 1.66 with Bet365 and 1.67 with Betfair and Betway.
