Jamaica Tallawahs vs Barbados Tridents, CPL T20
The 2019 champion, Barbados Tridents, conclude their 2020 Caribbean Premier League season against one of the two teams they have beaten in their miserable title defence, Jamaica Tallawahs. The match takes place at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy on September 5 and the live action starts at 14:15 local time.
Jamaica were below par with the bat when these teams last met but they have seven points so far – three wins and a tropical thunderstorm-enforced no result last time out – to ensure they have improved on last year and return to the play-offs. Glenn Phillips’ batting has been a central tenet of their form.
Barbados, on the other hand, have not won since their victory against the Tallawahs due to some pathetic batting displays. They lost to high-flying Trinbago next up but have since scored 89/7 – chasing 93 to win – and then 92 and 89/9 in their last two games. Unsurprisingly, they find themselves well off the pace.

Jamaica Tallawahs Team News & Playing 11
JT Team News
Andre Russell has returned of late for the Tallawahs but has not bowled since coming back from his injury and was not one of the three players to bowl before the rain came last time out.
JT Key Players
- Glenn Phillips: Top-scored in their last win, and has generally continued his excellent form from last year with 248 more runs with the bat – 120 of which have come in his last two innings.
- Andre Russell: Even when he did not bowl on his return to the time, he still found time to muller an unbeaten half-century and take more headlines.
- Mujeeb Ur Rahman: Barbados’ struggles against spin should be laid bare when these teams meet, given Mujeeb’s 13 wickets so far.
JT Team Form
Jamaica Tallawahs could not add to their three wins as the rain ruined their game against a St Kitts & Nevi Patriots side who the Talalwahs beat comfortably in their most recent success. In between, they suffered defeat to Trinbago Knight Riders.
Jamaica Tallawahs Predicted Playing 11
Glenn Phillips (wk), Jermaine Blackwood, Asif Ali, Andre Russell, Rovman Powell (c), Carlos Brathwaite, Nkrumah Bonner, Veerasammy Permaul, Fidel Edwards, Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Sandeep Lamichhane
Barbados Tridents Team News & Playing 11
Barbados Team News
Another dismal batting display last time out means the experiment of Rashid Khan at number three may not be repeated. He was caught in the deep first ball last time out. There could be more changes this time.
Barbados Key Players
- Rashid Khan: Still has ten wickets to his name, but they have been defending some poor totals in recent matches.
- Hayden Walsh Jr: Did not bowl last time out, so he still has combined figures of 4-28 from his last two bowling performances.
- Jason Holder: Bowled superbly to take 2-10 from four overs, including a maiden, to continue a good tournament personally.
Barbados Team Form
For a third consecutive match in CPL 2020, Barbados Tridents fell embarrassingly short with the bat last time out. They hit 89/7 chasing just 93 to beat St Lucia Zouks before scores of 92 and 89/9 in back-to-back matches against Guyana Amazon Warriors both resulted in big defeats.
Barbados Tridents Predicted Playing 11
Johnson Charles, Shai Hope (wk), Kyle Mayers, Jason Holder (c), Shamarh Brooks, Mitchell Santner, Rashid Khan, Ashley Nurse, Raymon Reifer, Hayden Walsh Jr, Joshua Bishop
Jamaica Tallawahs vs Barbados Tridents Head to Head
Jamaica are one of just two teams to have lost to the Tridents so far this season. Kyle Mayers smashed 85 in a total of 148/7 – despite Mujeeb Ur Rahman’s 3-14 – and the Tallawahs struggled to just 112/9 in reply. It is the reverse of last year, when Barbados were the only team to lose to the Tallawahs – and did so twice.
