Australia Women are favorites to win
India Women will take on Australia Women at the Dr DY Patil Sports Academy, Mumbai in the first WT20I of the series. This match gets underway at 19:00 local time on Friday, 5th January, 2024.
Although this will not be the quickest pitch that the two teams have played on over the last couple of weeks, the bounce will be consistent and a par score will be in the region of 135-140.

After winning the Women’s Test Series 1-0, but then losing the WODIs 3-0, India Women will be looking to get off to a winning start with this opening WT20I in Mumbai on Friday. In spite of a poor run of individual form, Harmanpreet Kaur will captain the side again.
Jemimah Rodrigues top scored for India Women during the WODI series with 151 runs and she is likely to be one of their top batters in this game as well. We also expect to see the likes of Shafali Verma and Smriti Mandhana contributing with the bat in this opening WT20I.
Renuka Singh, Deepti Sharma and Shreyanka Patil all enjoyed success across the WODIs but it is Deepti Sharma who we expect to cause the most problems for the Australia Women on this pitch. Renuka has always been a strong WT20I bowler with the new ball.
India Women beat England Women in their last WT20I but had lost the previous two games to lose the series.
Smriti Mandhana, Yastika Bhatiya, Jemimah Rodrigues, Harmanpreet Kaur (c), Richa Ghosh (wk), Deepti Sharma, Pooja Vastrakar, Harleen Deol, Sneh Rana, Amanjot Kaur, Shreyanka Patil, Renuka Singh Thakur
Although Australia Women were well beaten in the one-off Women’s Test before Christmas, they were back to their best in the WODIs and Alyssa Healy’s side will look to carry and maintain that momentum into this shorter format series.
Skipper Healy and opener Phoebe Litchfield will bat at the top of the order for the visitors but as with their side in other formats, we can expect a long batting line-up. Litchfield was very impressive during the WODIs and she will be well backed up by the likes of Ellyse Perry and Beth Mooney.
Megan Schutt has been Australia Women’s long serving opening bowler and we expect to see her share new ball duties with Darcie Brown in this opening WT20I. Jess Jonassen has not featured since the Test but she is a fine WT20I player who we anticipate will be in the XI for this game.
Australia Women have won two of their last three WT20Is but have lost three of their last five.
Alyssa Healy (wk), Phoebe Litchfield, Beth Mooney, Tahlia McGrath, Ashleigh Gardner, Ellyse Perry, Annabel Sutherland, Jess Jonasson, Kim Garth, Megan Schutt, Georgia Wareham
With both teams having won one series each so far, they will see this three-match WT20I series as the decider. The shorter the format the more chance of upsets but we saw during the WODIs that Australia Women are the superior white ball side. We expect a close game but our prediction is a win for Australia Women.
