India Team News & Playing 11
Team News
India are sweating on the fitness of captain Virat Kohli, who suffered a shoulder injury in the third test. Mumbai batsman Shreyas Iyer has been called up as cover, having scored 725 runs in this season’s Ranji Trophy to fire his team to the runners-up spot. India remain hopeful Kohli will play, however, and could also be tempted to recall fit-again Mohammed Shami. The pace bowler took four wickets for Bengal in the Vijay Hazare Trophy final and, while he has not played the longer form of the game he is with the team in. Ishant Sharma is likely to miss out should Shami prove his fitness.
Key Players
Spin bowling duo Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin are now ranked as the number one and two bowlers in the world, and with 38 wickets between them so far in this series, it’s easy to see why. Jadeja’s bowling in the first innings of matches has been particularly impressive, while Ashwin should get plenty of help from the pitch later in the match. On the batting front, Cheteshwar Pujara proved his worth with the third double-century of his test match career in the third test. Pujara has now scored a 200 against Australia in each of their last two tours to India.
Recent Form
Defeat in the opening test match brought is India’s only loss in their last 22 test matches – a run which has seen Bangladesh, England, New Zealand, West Indies and South Africa all succumb to series defeats against the Indians.

Team News
With all-rounder Mitchell Marsh and pace bowler Mitchell Starc ruled out of the series, Glenn Maxwell and Pat Cummins both came into the team for the third test and performed well. Maxwell’s first-innings century included a stand of 191 with captain Steve Smith, while Cummins took 4-106 from 39 overs in India’s innings. Cummins was playing just his second career test match after a frustrating battle with injuries, but the seamer has recovered sufficiently to play in Dharamsala.
Key Players
Steve Smith’s unbeaten 178 in the first innings of the third test was his second century of the series and keeps him at the top of the ICC world rankings ahead of Cheteshwar Pujara. Smith tops the batting charts for the series with 371 runs from six innings, and an average of 74.20. Though they got little out of the pitch for the third test, spin bowling duo Steve O’Keefe and Nathan Lyon have taken 32 wickets between them in the series.
Recent Form
Australia arrived in India on the back of four consecutive test match wins, and extended that run to five games by winning in Pune. Their series win against Pakistan is their only recent test series win, however, with India now bidding to join South Africa and Sri Lanka as recent victors against the Aussies.

India vs Australia Head to Head
India have won ten of their past 14 test matches at home to Australia, with the tourists’ victory in the first test actually their first on Indian soil since 2004. Dharamsala is hosting its first ever test match, but Australia have played there once before – losing to New Zealand in last year’s World T20.
India vs Australia 4th Test Betting Odds
India remain favourites to win the fourth test match and the series, with both Bet365 and Betfair offering a best price of 1.83 on an Indian victory. Australia are as high as 3.75 with 1xbet, while the bookies’ agree with the Australian belief the pitch at Dharamsala will encourage a result. The draw is at 4.5 with bet365 and 4.33 with betway.
India vs Australia 4th Test Prediction
Australia only need to draw to retain the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, but the pitch is unlikely to play as slow as it did at Ranchi. A draw seems unlikely, especially with India’s world-leading spin duo on show, and with home advantage you have to back the Indians.
Final Verdict: Back India to beat Australia in the third test match at 1.83 with bet365 and 1xbet and 1.80 with betway.
