Who will win Hong Kong vs Ireland, 6th T20?
Ireland will look to get back to winning ways when they take on a depleted Hong Kong in the latest game of the Oman Pentangular Series – which is serving as a warm-up tournament for the ICC World T20 Qualifier for four of the five teams. The match takes place in Muscat on October 7 and is scheduled to start at 14:00.
Ireland are looking to bounce back from a surprise defeat to the hosts. They had previously beaten the Netherlands but then slipped to a 43-run defeat as they were bowled out for 130 last time out.
Hong Kong, meanwhile, have seen several key players turn their backs on the team and, as a result, they have already fielded eight T20i debutants in this series. They were beaten heavily by Oman first up but showed signs of improvement as they faced Nepal in their second game.

Hong Kong Team News & Playing 11
HK Team News
Mohammad Ghazanfar and Raag Kapur both made their T20 international debuts last time out, after Ahsan Abbasi, Haroon Arshed, Aarush Bhagwat, Kyle Christie, Scott McKechnie and Nasrulla Rana did likewise in the opening game. With Babar Hayat and Anshuman Rath leading the list of players to have turned their backs on the national team, Hong Kong have a very depleted squad to choose from.
HK Key Players
Nizakat Khan: Caught the eye when he scored 92 for Hong Kong in their ODI against India at the Asia Cup and his 23 from 13 balls last time out shows how important he could be at the top of the order if he turns more of these starts in big knocks.
Kyle Christie: One of the less experienced players in this squad, he started the series with respectable figures of 1-20 on his T20i debut. He caught the eye with some good bowling in the 2018 Hong Kong Twenty20 Blitz too.
Mohammad Ghazanfar: Made his T20 international debut last time out, having finished the Hong Kong Premier League T20 Tournament as top wicket-taker – he took nine in four matches.
HK Team Form
Hong Kong have had a big gap between T20 international fixtures and made a losing start to this series when they posted just 86/9 on their way to a heavy defeat to hosts Oman. It was their first T20 international since the Desert T20 Challenge in Dubai in January 2017.
Despite a depleted squad, they did manage big improvements with the bat when they then faced Nepal in their second game of this series, however.
Hong Kong Predicted Playing 11
Ahsan Abassi, Nizakat Khan, Kinchit Shah (c), Shahid Wasif, Waqas Barkat, Ehsan Khan, Aarush Bhagwat (wk), Raag Kapur, Mohammad Ghazanfar, Kyle Christie, Nasrulla Rana
Ireland Team News & Playing 11
IRE Team News
Stuart Thompson replaced Boyd Rankin last time out, but both men could feature together this time. That would likely mean Craig Young making way – particularly as he was expensive with the ball against Oman.
IRE Key Players
Andy Balbirnie: Generally consistent with the bat in T20 cricket and capable of some big innings too. He hit his third T20i half-century against Scotland last month and has a strike rate of 137.98 in T20 internationals.
Mark Adair: The paceman has taken two wickets in each of his last three T20 internationals, against Scotland, the Netherlands and now Oman. He has 29 wickets in 23 T20i innings in all.
Kevin O’Brien: The big-hitting opener delivered a reminder of what he is capable of in the defeat to Oman. When he was in full flow, Ireland were very much on top as he smashed two fours and four sixes in his 16-ball 39. His last four T20i innings have been 30, 63, 23 and now 39.
IRE Team Form
Ireland won the Tri-Nation Series on home soil with two wins against Scotland and then opened this Pentangular Series by beating the Netherlands – Harry Tector top-scoring with 47* from 26 balls as they chased 168 to beat the Dutch by six wickets in 18.2 overs.
A batting collapse after Kevin O’Brien’s bright start saw them slip to 130 all out against hosts Oman, however – suffering a 43-run defeat as a result.
Ireland Predicted Playing 11
Paul Stirling, Kevin O’Brien, Andrew Balbirnie, Gareth Delany, Gary Wilson (c, wk), Harry Tector, Stuart Thompson, Mark Adair, Shane Getkate, George Dockrell, Boyd Rankin
Hong Kong vs Ireland Head to Head
Ireland are actually looking for their first T20i win against Hong Kong, having lost both previous completed games. The first defeat was in the ICC T20 World Cup Qualifier in 2015 – Irfan Ahmed’s excellent bowling helping Hong Kong defend 129/8 to win by five runs. The second meeting was the following year, when Nizakat Khan hit 62 in a total of 169/5 and Aizaz Khan took 3-10 as Ireland folded for 129 all out in reply.
