Who will win Hobart Hurricanes vs Melbourne Renegades, BPL 2019?
Melbourne Renegades will hope it is third time lucky as they bid for their first win of the 2019-20 Big Bash League season. They take on Hobart Hurricanes at the Blundstone Arena, Hobart, on December 24 and the live action gets underway at 14:45 local time.
The Renegades, the defending champions, have lost two from two so far. Despite Kane Richardson claiming 4-22 last time out, they were set 198 to beat Perth Scorchers and Beau Webster’s 67* from 37 balls could only lift them to 185/6.
Hobart, meanwhile, won their opening match but were bowled out for 111 against Melbourne Stars last time out to suffer a 52-run defeat. They are one of a number of teams sat on one win so far as a result.

HBH vs MLR Pitch Condition
If the Blundstone Arena pitch is going to give anything to the bowlers, it will be early on. Generally, however, it is an excellent batting wicket.

Hobart Hurricanes Team News & Playing 11
HBH Team News
Matthew Wade is in the Australia squad gearing up for the second test against New Zealand, as is Tim Paine – who has opted out of the BBL this season. James Faulkner and George Bailey both missed out last time out but both are available again and in the squad for this match.
HBH Key Players
D’Arcy Short: Top scorer again last season, the opener hit six half-centuries on his way to 637 runs in total – bettering his 572 runs from the previous season in the process.
Qais Ahmad: The Afghan spinner proved how important he can be when he took 4-12 from his four overs in the opening game to bowl Hobart to victory against Sydney Sixers. He took another wicket last time out too.
James Faulkner: Started the tournament with 2-11 against the Sixers and his return bolsters the lower-order batting as well as the death bowling unit.
HBH Team Form
Hobart are yet to hit full stride with the bat, posting 129/9 – largely thanks to D’Arcy Short’s half-century – in their first game before they were bowled out for 111 in their second. Qais Ahmad’s superb bowling – claiming 4-12 from his four overs – ensured that first total was a winning one against Sydney Sixers, however, as they bowed the Sixers out for 104. Last time out, against Melbourne Stars, their batting collapse meant a 52-run defeat.
Hobart Hurricanes Predicted Playing 11
D’Arcy Short, Caleb Jewell, Ben McDermott (c, wk), David Miller, George Bailey, Simon Milenko, James Faulkner, Nathan Ellis, Qais Ahmad, Clive Rose, Riley Meredith
Melbourne Renegades Team News & Playing 11
MLR Team News
Melbourne Renegades’ English pace duo Richard Gleeson and Harry Gurney were both expensive last time out but the defending champions are likely to stick with the two of them. Mohammad Nabi is not available until later in the tournament, although Marcus Harris is in the squad and could bolster the top order.
MLR Key Players
Shaun Marsh: The Renegades’ new signing has made a big impact already. The 36-year-old started with 42 in the first game and then hit 55 last time out – continuing the batting form he had been showcasing for Western Australia too.
Aaron Finch: Two good starts without kicking on so far, hitting 29 and 28, but the Australia white-ball captain will be vital at the top of the order if he can hit his explosive best. He hit his 56th T20 half-century (to go with seven hundreds) in his most recent T20 international.
Kane Richardson: Economical in the first game, returning 0-18 from his four overs, before an excellent 4-22 last time out. If one of the other pacemen had been able to keep things tight with him, it would have been a very different story.
MLR Team Form
Melbourne Renegades have lost both matches as they look to defend their BBL 2019 title so far. They posted 169/5 in their first game but could not defend it against Sydney Thunder despite Harry Gurney’s 2-26 and Kane Richardson taking 0-18 from four overs. Richardson starred with the ball last time out too, claiming 4-22, but Perth Scorchers smashed 196/7 and the Renegades could only reach 185/6 in reply.
Melbourne Renegades Predicted Playing 11
Sam Harper (wk), Aaron Finch (c), Shaun Marsh, Marcus Harris, Dan Christian, Beau Webster, Jake Wildermuth, Cameron Boyce, Kane Richardson, Richard Gleeson, Harry Gurney
