ENG vs SL ODI Match Prediction & Betting Tips, Cricket World Cup 2023
Match 25 of the 2023 Cricket World Cup sees two of the bottom three sides go head to head as England take on Sri Lanka in Bengaluru. It is fair to say that England’s defence of the trophy which they won in 2019 is not going to plan as they have won only one match from four and come into this game off the back of defeats against Afghanistan by 69 runs and South Africa by 229 runs. Sri Lanka lost to South Africa, Pakistan and Australia before finally getting their first win of the tournament with a 5 wicket triumph over the Netherlands on Saturday. Read on as we preview this day-night match. The game gets underway at the M.Chinnaswamy Stadium at 14:00 local time.
England have been very disappointing in the tournament and have now lost Reece Topley who was their best bowler in the last game. Their players were drained by the conditions at the Wankhede Stadium but they should find them more bearable in Bengaluru.
Sri Lanka finally got their first win of the campaign on Saturday and even though the win was against the Netherlands, it shouldn’t be dismissed as the men in orange had just beaten South Africa. There should be enough batting quality for Sri Lanka to give England a tough match.

ENG vs SL Match Toss Prediction
Australia batted first at this venue last week and went on to record a 62 run victory so we predict that both sides will want to bat first in this match.
ENG vs SL Pitch Report
This is a good batting wicket with pace in the surface and a very quick outfield. There will also be bounce and turn for the spin bowlers at the M.Chinnaswamy Stadium.
The 1st innings average score is around 290 and the par score will be more than 310.
Bengaluru Weather Report
The forecast is for warm conditions throughout the match with the temperature between 27 and 32 degrees. Humidity is not expected to be an issue with the level not rising above 40%.

England Team News & Playing 11
England Team News
There were three changes to the England XI ahead of their match with South Africa on Saturday with Ben Stokes declared fit and coming into the team alongside David Willey and Gus Atkinson with Sam Curran, Liam Livingstone and Chris Woakes dropping out. Reece Topley has now been ruled out for the remainder of the tournament.
England Key Players
- Joe Root - With England’s batting line-up lacking in confidence, there will be plenty of pressure on the former Test captain to produce an understated big score to calm the rest of the squad.
- Harry Brook - The young right-hander produced the most runs of any of England’s top eight in their heavy loss last Saturday. He will look to take the attack to Sri Lanka’s bowlers whether they are quick or spinners.
- Ben Stokes - Ben Stokes opened his World Cup campaign in the last match but he failed to perform. We are well aware of his capabilities with both bat and ball. We are backing Stokes as a key all-rounder for this match. He has played 109 ODIs in which he picked 74 wickets and scored 3164 runs so far.

- Adil Rashid - the leg-spinner produced an impressive display against South Africa in spite of struggling with illness during the humid conditions. He dismissed Rassie van der Dussen and Reeza Hendricks.
- Mark Wood - The right-arm pace bowler was unable to stop Marco Jansen and Heinrich Klaasen on Saturday but we expect him to respond with far better figures in this game than 0-76 from 7 overs against South Africa.

Sri Lanka Team News & Playing 11
Sri Lanka Team News
Former England coach Chris Silverwood is the coach of Sri Lanka and he will be well armed with first-hand knowledge of many of the opposition players. Experienced middle order batter Angelo Mathews has been called into the team to replace young pace bowler Matheesa Pathirana who has left the tournament due to injury.
Sri Lanka Key Players
- Pathum Nissanka - The opener comes into this match looking to hit his fourth successive half-century in the competition and was the only player in Sri Lanka’s top six with a strike-rate over 100 in Match 19.
- Sadeera Samarawickrama - The 28 year old right-hander is fast establishing himself as Sri Lanka’s key upper-middle order batter. He hit seven fours and finished unbeaten on 91 not out in the win over the Netherlands.
- Kusal Mendis - Skipper Kusal Mendis is currently the 2nd leading run scorer of the team. He has smashed 218 runs in 4 innings at an aggressive strike rate of 146.30. We are backing him to play another high-scoring innings on this batting track of Chinnaswamy Stadium.

- Dilshan Madushanka - The left-arm quick has been one of few positives for Sri Lanka in the tournament. Ahead of Wednesday’s game, only one player had taken more wickets in the Cricket World Cup 2023.
- Kasun Rajitha - The right-arm medium fast bowler came back into the side and announced himself with 4-50, his best ever ODI bowling figures. He will fancy his chances against a low in confidence England batting side.

England vs Sri Lanka Betting Odds
Although they have been struggling in the competition, England come into this match as strong favourites with the bookies at 1.30. Sri Lanka are the underdogs although their odds are not overly long at 3.25.
Who will win England vs Sri Lanka ODI Match?
Both teams have been struggling with injuries although Sri Lanka have been the worst hit of the two sides. England have not been at their best but we still expect them to be the stronger team on Thursday.
🏆 England vs Sri Lanka Prediction
Both of these teams will be desperately disappointed with their returns from the opening four games but, such is the format of the Cricket World Cup, there is still a good chance of them qualifying in the top four but only if they go on a winning run. Sri Lanka have been struck with many injuries and as a result have been forced into playing a side with a lack of experience. England, on the other hand, have players who some pundits consider to be too old but there is also plenty of quality to call upon. We are predicting England to have enough to win this match.
