England Women are favorites to win
England Women will take on India Women in the third WODI at Lord’s, North London. The final game of the series begins at 11:00 local time on Saturday 24th September.
The home side have been outplayed in the first two games of the series and have only pride left to play for in this final match. 17 year old left-arm medium pacer, Freya Kemp, made her debut in Tuesday’s game but may be taken out of the team after conceding 82 runs from her 10 overs.
Although she has typically batted at the top of the order over recent years, Danni Wyatt has scored over 100 runs in this series so far from the middle order. Captain and wicket-keeper Amy Jones was the only England Women’s player to hit a six in the defeat in the second WODI.
England Women used only five bowlers across the 50 overs of India Women’s innings on Tuesday with all bowlers picking up a wicket each. Charlie Dean stood out with figures of 1-39 but the other four conceded between 64 and 82 runs from their 10 overs.
After winning the WIT20 series earlier this month, hopes were high ahead of this WODI series. England Women are inconsistent so getting a win, after the big defeat in the second game, is a real possibility.
The visitors secured their first series win in England since 1999 when they won by 88 runs in Canterbury in the second WODI. The result was based on an incredible batting display - India Women’s total of 333-5 was their second highest score in this format.
Captain Harmanpreet Kaur hit 143 not out from 11 balls on Tuesday. Her innings, which included 18 fours and four sixes, is the highest score from an India Women’s captain in WODI cricket. Opener Smriti Mandhana also contributed 40 runs with 58 coming from Harleen Deol.
Right arm medium fast bowler, Renuka Singh, who starred for India Women during the 2022 Commonwealth Games at Edgbaston earlier this summer, was back to her best at Canterbury. She took 4-57 and now averages only 17.07 per wicket in this format.
India Women have won their last five matches in WODI cricket. Since finishing in fifth place in the World Cup earlier this year, they have excelled in this format.
The match will be played at Lord’s, North London. The slope at the ground always provides natural movement for seam bowlers and we expect a par score of 260-270.
