England vs Pakistan 2nd T20

After more rain-related frustration last time out meant a no result, England and Pakistan once again go head-to-head in the second T20i of their three-game series at Old Trafford Cricket Ground, Manchester. The match takes place on August 30 and the live action starts at 14:15 local time.

England were 131/6 when rain curtailed the first match, with 3.5 overs remaining. With none of the test players involved, Tom Banton had seized his chance by smashing 71 from 42 balls although a middle-order collapse meant things were evenly poised when the last game came to an early conclusion.

Pakistan had Imad Wasim (2-31) and Shadab Khan (2-33) to thank for having clawed things back with the ball. They have a balanced squad as they look to climb back up the T20i rankings – it is not long ago they were top of the tree.

England Team News & Playing 11

ENG Team News

England opened with Tom Banton and Jonny Bairstow, with Dawid Malan at number three. David Willey was not selected and may replace Lewis Gregory this time, though the selectors may want another look at Gregory’s bowling first.

ENG Key Players

  • Eoin Morgan: The captain was in excellent T20i form in his last series, with two half-centuries against South Africa. He briefly excited before his early exit last time out.
  • Tom Banton: Proved why there is so much excitement surrounding him at the moment, as he hammered 71 from 42 balls last time out.
  • Chris Jordan: The experienced all-rounder has proved himself a key bowler in T20 cricket but there will not be too many chances remaining to cement his World T20 place.

ENG Team Form

England most recently came from behind to beat South Africa, with a huge chase in the final innings of the final match of the series. They beat New Zealand in thrilling circumstances before that too and so are looking to continue their good form at this level.

England Predicted Playing 11

Jonny Bairstow (wk), Dawid Malan, Tom Banton, Eoin Morgan (c), Sam Billings, Moeen Ali, David Willey, Tom Curran, Chris Jordan, Adil Rashid, Saqib Mahmood

Pakistan Team News & Playing 11

PAK Team News

Both Shoaib Malik and Mohammad Hafeez played last time out. Changes seem unlikely, but Haris Rauf was expensive so one of Naseem Shah or Mohammad Hasnain might replace him.

PAK Key Players

  • Babar Azam: Set to return to Somerset after this series, he has showed excellent T20 form in England before and his T20i average of 50.72 shows that was no one-off either.
  • Shoaib Malik: Excellent form in franchise cricket earned him a Pakistan recall and he looks key at T20 level. He can turn his arm too, as well as being a key batsman.
  • Imad Wasim: Showed why he is ranked so highly in the T20i world rankings by taking 2-31 from his four overs last time out.

PAK Team Form

Pakistan beat Bangladesh in their most recent series, having suffered defeats to Sri Lanka and Australia before that. They had just clawed the first game of this series back when the rain came down last time out.

Pakistan Predicted Playing 11

Babar Azam (c), Fakhar Zaman, Mohammad Hafeez, Shoaib Malik, Iftikhar Ahmed, Imad Wasim, Mohammad Rizwan (wk), Shadab Khan, Shaheen Afridi, Mohammad Amir, Muhammad Hasnain

ENG vs PAK Dream11 Prediction

  • Wicket-keeper

Jonny Bairstow opens the batting and is a key part of the England batting line-up. He might not have fired last time out, but he is still key and worth selecting at ten credits.

  • Batsmen

Babar Azam is another expensive option still worth picking. He is 10.5 credits but it is good value if he plays to his usual high standard. Eoin Morgan gave a brief reminder of what he is capable of, meanwhile, and he is 9.5 credits while Dawid Malan is nine credits after his decent form last time out. Tom Banton is just 8.5 credits after starring before the rain came down last time out. That is excellent value.

  • All-rounders

Shoaib Malik is 9.5 credits but the all-rounder – even if he does not bowl – is in excellent T20 form across the last 18 months or so. Imad Wasim took two wickets last time out, as did Shadab Khan, and both of those are worth picking. That does leave you without an England all-rounder though.

  • Bowlers

Mohammad Amir and Adil Rashid are among their team’s top bowlers and both are nine credits but possibly still worth picking. Saqib Mahmood could prove excellent value at eight credits to round the team off, meanwhile.

  • Captain/Vice-captain

Imad Wasim’s bowling last time out was a reminder of why he is so highly regarded in T20 cricket and he can swing the bat too. Babar Azam’s batting reputation might make an all-Pakistan captain/vice-captain set-up worthwhile.

ENG vs PAK Dream11 Team Prediction

  • Batsmen:Babar Azam (c), Eoin Morgan, Dawid Malan, Tom Banton

  • All Rounder:Shoaib Malik, Imad Wasim (vc), Shadab Khan

  • Wicket Keeper:Jonny Bairstow

  • Bowler:Mohammad Amir, Adil Rashid, Saqib Mahmood
