ENG vs PAK Betting Tips

  • England and Pakistan were frustrated by the rain in the first game of this five-match series, which ended in a no result at the Oval.
  • In the brief bit of play they did have, Jofra Archer impressed as he looks to force his way into World Cup selection - the paceman took 1-6 from four overs.
  • Imam-ul-Haq was patiently leading Pakistan's recovery, but the rain curtailed the innings at 80/2 after 19 overs and play did not resume.

ENG vs PAK Toss Prediction

England won the toss and opted to bowl first in the opening ODI, but the Ageas Bowl pitch tends to suit batting more and the hosts could choose to set a target if they win the toss again.

England Team News & Playing 11

ENG Team News

England chose not to risk Jason Roy’s fitness for the opening ODI, and may stick with James Vince for this second game after the rain denied him more time in the middle. The same is true of Joe Denly, who played ahead of Moeen Ali.

ENG Key Players

Jofra Archer is the focus of all the pre-World Cup attention in this England squad as he looks to force his way into the final 15-man squad – which he is not currently a member of. Archer took 1-6 from four overs and consistently ramped the speed up in the brief bit of play permitted in the first ODI.

England’s other wicket taker was Liam Plunkett, meanwhile, as he followed up his 4-35 against Ireland by having Babar Azam caught behind.

With the bat, Eoin Morgan comes into this series on the back of becoming the first England batsman to score 6,000 runs in ODIs. He and Joe Root both scored runs in the T20 against Pakistan, and both have shared some big ODI partnerships during England’s surge to the top of the ODI rankings.

Jonny Bairstow and Jos Buttler are both in the squad on the back of their good form at the IPL, meanwhile. Bairstow scored 445 runs in ten innings for Sunrisers Hyderabad, while Buttler hit 311 in eight for Rajasthan Royals – each with strike rates above 150.

ENG Team Form

While there was just enough time for Jofra Archer to make another point to the national selectors in the first game of this series, England were frustrated by the rain at the Oval as they gear up for the World Cup.

Though number one in the world, their last full series ended in a 2-2 draw with West Indies after a batting collapse in the last game, but England did win their most recently completed game, against Ireland.

In Malahide, Liam Plunkett took four wickets and Tom Curran three as Ireland were bowled out for 198, before Ben Foakes hit 68 not out and Curran was unbeaten on 47 to lead England to a four-wicket win.

England Predicted Playing 11

James Vince, Jonny Bairstow, Joe Root, Eoin Morgan (c), Jos Buttler (wk), Joe Denly, Ben Stokes, Liam Plunkett, Chris Woakes, Adil Rashid, Jofra Archer

Pakistan Team News & Playing 11

PAK Team News

Mohammad Hafeez (hand injury) and Shoaib Malik (personal reasons) remain unavailable for Pakistan, though they are both due back for the third game in the series. Shadab Khan will miss the whole tour with a virus, however.

In the first game, Mohammad Amir and Asif Ali – both on the World Cup reserve list – were selected and, with no opportunity to stake their claim for a World Cup spot due to the weather, Pakistan might stick with them this time.

PAK Key Players

Imam-ul-Haq was building nicely in the first ODI before the rain came, leaving him stranded on 42*. He has five ODI 50s and five centuries to his name, from just 25 appearances, and now averages 56.90 in the format. The two batsmen to get out were previously in good form too – Fakhar Zaman impressing in the List A warm-ups and Babar Azam shining in the T20s. Both also average north of 50 in ODI cricket.

Haris Sohail hit two centuries despite Pakistan being whitewashed by Australia, while Asif Ali needs to take his opportunity to shine if he is to force his way into World Cup reckoning.

With the ball, Hasan Ali was in superb form during the Pakistan Super League – comfortable topping the wicket-taking charts after claiming three four-wicket hauls. He and Faheem Ashraf were the only two bowlers to take more than 20 wickets in that series, and both will want to transpose their T20 form into the 50-over format.

PAK Team Form

Prior to the no result at the Oval, Pakistan had seen their ODI form desert them. They lost all five matches in their most recent series, against Australia in the UAE, and they have now won just one of their last ten 50-over matches.

Their last completed match was in Dubai against the Aussies, where they conceded 327/7 from their 50 overs. In reply, Haris Sohail hit his second century of the series but his 130 from 129 balls was not enough to prevent a 20-run defeat.

Pakistan Predicted Playing 11

Fakhar Zaman, Babar Azam, Imam-ul-Haq, Haris Sohail, Sarfaraz Ahmed (c, wk), Asif Ali, Imad Wasim, Faheem Ashraf, Hasan Ali, Mohammad Amir, Shaheen Afridi

England vs Pakistan Head to Head

The first match in this series produced only the third no result in the ODI history of this fixture. England’s next win will be their 50th, having won 49 of the previous against 83, leaving Pakistan with 31 wins.

Pakistan did win the most recent completed game between the two, however, at the Champions Trophy in 2017. Pakistan restricted hosts England to 211 all out, and they chased it comfortably as Fakhar Zaman and Azhar Ali both hit half-centuries in an eight-wicket win.
