ENG Team News
With all-rounder Tom Curran already ruled out of the ODI series - and Chris Woakes not fit enough to be selected for the squad in the first place - England have suffered another blow with the news that Alex Hales has been ruled out for the series too after suffering a side strain in the nets. Dawid Malan was called up as cover and will remain with the squad.
Sam Curran is unlikely to feature, meanwhile - he has been released to play for Surrey in the t20 Blast on Friday night and, although he will be with the squad at Lord's on Saturday, it seems unlikely he will force his way into the starting line-up.
ENG Key Players
It is easy to forget now after Kuldeep Yadav stole the show at Trent Bridge, but until the leg-spinner dismissed them both, Jason Roy and Jonny Bairstow had got England off to yet another good start in the first ODI.
Roy, who hit two centuries in the ODI series win against Australia and smashed a 31-ball 67 in the final T20 match against India, hit 38 from 35 balls in a 73-run partnership from 10.2 overs. Bairstow was dismissed for exactly the same score, as he continued a run of form that included three consecutive ODI centuries - his last ten ODI innings have brought 704 runs.
In-form Jos Buttler was England's top scorer, meanwhile, with 53 from 51 balls. His last five ODI innings are 91*, 11. 54*, 110* and now 53, highlighting the big-hitting batsman's stunning form with the bat.
It was a day to forget for England's bowlers, meanwhile, but Moeen Ali and Adil Rashid both added to their recent wicket tallies. Rashid has 20 in his last ten ODIs, while Ali has 17. Liam Plunkett and David Willey will expect to get more out of the pitch at Lord's, however.
ENG Team Form
India's win in the first ODI of this series at Trent Bridge ended a run of five consecutive wins - all against Australia - in England's preferred limited-overs format.
The eight-wicket loss followed a 5-0 series whitewash against the Australians, which included posting a world record ODI score of 481/6 in one of those five wins. Alex Hales, Jonny Bairstow, Jason Roy and Jos Buttler all hit centuries in the series, while England passed 300 on three occasions - including that world record score.
The series did follow a shock defeat to Scotland, however, where the Scots posted 371/5 and England were all-out just six runs short of the target.
England Predicted Playing 11
Jason Roy, Jonny Bairstow, Joe Root, Eoin Morgan, Jos Buttler, Ben Stokes, Moeen Ali, David Willey, Liam Plunkett, Adil Rashid, Mark Wood
India Team News & Playing 11
IND Team News
Bhuvneshwar Kumar was injured for the first ODI, despite captain Rohit Sharma hinting at his return to fitness. It left India without either of their regular openers, given Jasprit Bumrah has already been replaced in the squad by Shardul Thakur.
Siddarth Kaul played instead of Kumar at Trent Bridge, but - if fit - Kumar will hope to return for the match at Lord's, where he claimed 6/82 on his test debut back in 2014.
IND Key Players
Kuldeep Yadav was already in good ODI form before the first match of this series, and his six-wicket haul means he now has 26 from his last nine matches. As well as claiming those six wickets, Yadav also bowled 38 dot balls to frustrate the likes of Ben Stokes and slow the scoring rate down - he was the only bowler in the match not to concede a boundary.
Given he also took 5/24 against England in the first T20i match, and claimed seven wickets in two games against Ireland in Dublin in shortest format, it is clear he is in the form of his life - and profiting from the unusually dry, dusty English wickets.
Yuzvendra Chahal also picked up another wicket, after he and Yadav took 33 between them in India's recent series win against South Africa.
India's in-form batsman continued where they left off against South Africa too. Rohit Sharma has hit centuries in the last two matches against England - the third T20 and now the first ODI, after his unbeaten 137 from 114 balls steered India home to a comfortable victory. Virat Kohli's 75 from 82 balls saw him continue the form he showed against South Africa too - he scored 558 runs in that six-match series.
IND Team Form
India went into this series on the back of beating South Africa 5-1 in a six-match series in February, where Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal starred with the ball, and Virat Kohli was in inspired form with the bat.
Excellent bowling has been the key to India's success, having bowled South Africa out for 201 and 204 in their final two matches of that series, before dismissing England for a below-par 268 at Trent Bridge last time out.
India Predicted Playing 11
Shikhar Dhawan, Rohit Sharma, Lokesh Rahul, Virat Kohli, Suresh Raina, MS Dhoni, Hardik Pandya, Yuzvendra Chahal, Kuldeep Yadav, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Umesh Yadav
