England vs India 1st Test Day 2 Highlights
The second day began with Sam Curran and James Anderson at the crease. The pair could add only two more runs to the total as England got bowled out for 287 in their first innings. India. in reply, scored 274 and conceded a 13-run lead to the hosts. Openers Shikhar Dhawan and Murali Vijay stitched a 50-run partnership between them and just when things were looking bright for the tourists, they lost half their side with just 100 runs on the board. But thanks to Virat Kohli's magnificent 149, India managed to get close to the English total. Sam Curran was the wrecker-in-chief for his side picking up a four-wicket haul. England came out to bat again later in the evening but lost Alastair Cook at the close of the day's play with the team's total reading 9-1. England are 22 runs ahead of India at this stage.
England vs India 1st Test Day 3 Prediction
This has been a thrilling contest so far with momentum shifting almost after every session. India would believe they have their nose slightly ahead after the early dismissal of Alastair Cook at stumps on Day 2 and they would have walked away being the happier of the two sides. The last hour or so saw the pendulum swing back towards India who will take the field on the third day all pumped up. They will not want to chase anything more than 300 and if the hosts get wrapped up for 270 or less, the visitors will be in with a big shout. Mohammed Shami and Ravichandran Ashwin are looking in excellent rhythm at the moment and we expect them to rip through England's batting line-up to give India the upper hand on Day 3.
England vs India 1st Test Day 1 Highlights
England will be disappointed with their overall batting performance as they were reduced to 285/9 at the close of the first day's play of the opening test match against India at Edgbaston. After winning the toss and electing to bat first.
The hosts got off to a good start with skipper Joe Root and Jonny Bairstow putting up a threatening stand. But soon after Root's dismissal, the visitors clawed their way back into the game picking up the next four wickets for just 27 runs.
Root and Bairstow were the highlights of England's batting with scores of 80 and 70 respectively.
For India, Ravichandran Ashwin starred with the ball and finished Day 1 with an impressive four-wicket haul. Mohammed Shami claimed a couple of wickets while the rest of the bowlers struggled to create much of an impact.
England vs India 1st Test Day 2 Prediction
England suffered a dramatic batting collapse in the final session on Day 1 and they will most likely end up with a total well below than what they would have liked.
Sam Curran and James Anderson will continue from where they left off and the team will be hoping that these two can add another 15 odd runs to get to that psychological figure of 300.
If India manage to restrict them to under 300, the hosts will find themselves under a lot of pressure and they would have to bowl really well to get back into the game.
The visitors have left out Cheteshwar Pujara for this game and so it will be crucial that the likes of Shikhar Dhawan, Virat Kohli and Lokesh Rahul provide them a steady start with the bat.
If Indian batsmen are able to see off the early threat from James Anderson and Stuart Broad, then they will give themselves a great chance of overhauling England's total and maybe even take a significant first-innings lead.
Who Will Win India vs England 1st Test?
England avenged their T20 international series defeat with a 2-1 ODI series victory against India. With the limited-overs fixtures done and dusted, the two teams are now set to face each other in the longest format of the game. The first of the five tests gets underway from August 1 at the Edgbaston in Birmingham. Live telecast is scheduled to begin at 11 AM local time each day of the match.

Toss Prediction
Five of the last seven test matches (only those that have produced results) played at the Edgbaston have been won by the side fielding first. Moreover, either team would want to take advantage of the moisture in the wicket and have a crack at the opposition. So the toss-winning skipper is more likely to bowl first.

England Team News & Playing 11
Eng Team News
The series opener against India at Edgbaston will make England the first team in cricket history to have played 1000 test matches. Joe Root, England's regular test skipper, will be leading the side. Keaton Jennings will probably open the batting alongside Alastair Cook. Chris Woakes is still recovering from his injury and has therefore not been included in the 13-man squad for the first test. Leg-spinner Adil Rashid, owing to his impressive form in the limited-overs series against India, has been retained for this opening test. The hosts have also called up uncapped bowling allrounder James Porter but he is unlikely to feature in the starting eleven.
Eng Key Players
Alastair Cook is the leading run-getter for England in tests and he has also scored the most runs at Edgbaston in this format. Joe Root seems to have picked up form ahead of the series with back-to-back hundreds in the last two ODIs and he could really make the Indian bowlers toil hard in the field. Jos Buttler is someone who has been in phenomenal white-ball form and the hosts will be hoping that he is able to transfer that form into test cricket.
James Anderson is definitely the key man for England when it comes to bowling. The veteran fast bowler is the leading test wicket-taker for the side and he has also taken the most test wickets at this ground - 40 in 9 matches. His bowling partner Stuart Broad will be the skipper's next best bet to rattle India's top-order. Adil Rashid troubled the batsmen in the ODI series and he could cause problems for the visitors with the red ball as well.
Eng Recent Form
England have not been doing too well in red-ball cricket of late - they have won just one of their past nine test matches. After beating the West Indies 2-1 at home last year in August, they faced a crushing 0-4 defeat to Australia in the Ashes in Australia before losing 0-1 in New Zealand against the hosts. England played their last test series two months ago against Pakistan at home. It was a two-match series which the hosts managed to level in the end after going down in the first encounter.
England Predicted Playing 11
Alastair Cook, Keaton Jennings, Joe Root, Dawid Malan, Jonny Bairstow, Ben Stokes, Jos Buttler, Stuart Broad, Sam Curran, Adil Rashid, James Anderson.
India Team News & Playing 11
Ind Team News
India will miss the services of their two first-choice seam bowlers in Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Jasprit Bumrah, both of whom are recovering from their respective injuries. Ravichandran Ashwin sustained a minor injury during the warm-up game against Essex but he is likely to be fully fit in time for the first test. Dinesh Karthik has been included in the 18-man squad for the first three tests, replacing wicketkeeper Wriddhiman Saha who has been ruled out of the series with a shoulder injury. Ajinkya Rahane has also been included in the squad but he is unlikely to find a spot in the playing eleven due to his poor run of form.
Ind Key Players
Shikhar Dhawan, KL Rahul, Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane will be India's biggest hopes with the bat. Skipper Kohli is currently the world number two batsman in tests and he is the leading run-scorer in this format from this squad. Dhawan and Rahul were both part of the T20I and ODI teams and so they would have already acclimatized to the conditions. Murali Vijay is a test specialist and he has the ability to bat for long and play the big innings.
Without Bhuvneshwar and Bumrah, the Indian bowling attack will rely heavily on Umesh Yadav, Ishant Sharma and Ravichandran Ashwin. Ashwin is fifth in the ICC test rankings for bowlers and is one of the highest wicket-takers for India with 316 wickets in 58 matches. Ishant and Yadav will be backed to provide the early breakthroughs with the new ball. Kuldeep Yadav tormented the English batsmen in the limited-overs series and he will be a big threat if he is given a game here.
Ind Recent Form
India's last assignment in the longest format came against Afghanistan at home in June and they ended up winning that one-off contest inside two days. Prior to that, they suffered a 1-2 series defeat on their tour of South Africa in January. The visitors have won nine, lost three and drawn as many matches out of the fifteen tests they have played since last year.
India Predicted Playing 11
Murali Vijay, Shikhar Dhawan, Lokesh Rahul, Virat Kohli(c), Ajinkya Rahane, Dinesh Karthik(w), Hardik Pandya, Ravichandran Ashwin, Umesh Yadav, Mohammed Shami, Ishant Sharma
