Albie Morkel is set to lead the 17-man Durban Heat squad for this inaugural edition of the MSL 2018. South Africa star batsman Hashim Amla, who missed the recent tour of Australia due to injury, is the team's marquee player and his availability for this game has been confirmed. However, David Miller and Heinrich Klaasen will miss this game as they are both part of the national T20I squad in Australia. Afghanistan spinner Rashid Khan won't be available until December while Zimbabwean spinner Brandon Mavuta too is scheduled to join the team only midway through the tournament. All-rounder Prenelan Subrayen has been added to the squad as cover for both these spinners.

Hashim Amla and Morne van Wyk hold the key to the Heat's batting at the top of the order. Amla is one of the leading run-getters for South Africa in T20Is with 1158 runs which includes seven half-centuries. van Wyk has a century at this ground and is the leading run-getter here in the twenty-over format. The team will also expect healthy contributions from Temba Bavuma and Khaya Zondo who have the experience of playing at the international level. In the terms of bowling, the Heat will be counting on the likes of Vernon Philander, Keshav Maharaj and Kyle Abbott to deliver the goods for them. Abbott has taken 26 wickets in 21 T20Is and he will be backed his skipper to strike early in the match. The opposition will also be wary of Philander who has the ability to swing the ball even on flat tracks. Maharaj has been a regular in the South African test set-up and the let-arm spinner will look to replicate his test form in the shortest format.
