Dolphins have been unchanged for their last two matches, with all-rounder Robbie Frylinck available again and in top form. Having pushed Cape Cobras close last time out, they may be tempted to stick again as they bid to end their losing streak.
Captain Khaya Zondo top-scored last time out with an unbeaten half-century – his eighth in T20 cricket – as Dolphins fell just short against Cape Cobras. He was partnered by fit-again Robbie Frylinck (47*), who was back to his best having been one of the stand-out stars of the Bangladesh Premier League.
Frylinck also took 2-27 with the ball, while his form in Bangladesh showed how dangerous his batting can be at the end of an innings. His strike rate of 185.71 is comfortably Dolphins’ best so far with the bat too.
On the bowling front, Prenelan Subrayen has taken five wickets so far with an economy rate of 5.25, while Daryn Dupavillon has weighed in with four wickets. Though Keshav Maharaj has taken just two so far, he has only conceded 52 runs from the 12 overs so far.
Dolphins made a winning start to this year’s CSA T20 Challenge, as Prenelan Subrayen took 3-15 to restrict Knights to 133/8 and Marques Ackerman hit an unbeaten 44 to secure a four-wicket win.
They have not won since, however – posting just 141/9 in reply to Lions’ 159/5 in their next game, before rain forced their match with Titans at Benoni to be abandoned.
Last time out, chasing 153 to beat Cape Cobras, Khaya Zondo (53*) and Robbie Frylinck (47* from 23 balls) led a recovery from 63/5 after 13.2 overs but they finished short on 144/5.

Onke Nyaku replaced Thomas Kaber for the rain-curtailed game against Lions last time out, and the Warriors could stick with that line-up after being denied the chance to defend what was heading to be a promising total.
Marco Marais highlighted what he is capable of with the bat last time out, before the rain came down, when he hammered five fours and eight sixes in a 33-ball unbeaten 82. In doing so, Marais became the first Warriors batsman to post a half-century this season.
Gihahn Cloete went closest before that, with an unbeaten 46 his top score. He has a handy strike rate of 151.02 too and top-scored in each of Warriors’ other two matches.
Bowling has been their issue, as they have been generally expensive in their two completed matches. JJ Smuts’ economy rate of 7.57 is actually their best so far. Lutho Sipamla is one of two bowlers with two wickets, meanwhile. He bowled for South Africa against Sri Lanka recently too, taking three wickets in the series.
Warriors won their first game against Titans thanks to the D/L method – Gihahn Cloete leading them to 60/0 from six overs to secure a four-run win, despite having earlier conceded 216/5 from 20 overs.
Cloete top-scored for Warriors again in their second completed match – after their game with Knights was totally rained off – but a total of 151/8 never looked like being enough as Cape Cobras stormed to a seven-wicket win in just 15.5 overs.
Most recently, Marco Marais’ storming unbeaten 82 from 33 balls had led them to 155/5 from 18.4 overs against Lions but it was to count for nothing as more rain prevented any further play.
Matthew Breetzke, Gihahn Cloete, Lesiba Ngoepe, JJ Smuts, Onke Nyaku, Marco Marais, Sinethemba Qeshile, Sisanda Magala, Andrew Birch, Jade de Klerk, Lutho Sipamla
There have been 20 previous T20 matches between Dolphins and Warriors, with the Warriors winning 12 of them. Dolphins have won six, there has been one tie and one no result.
Last season, only one of their two matches was completed and it proved to be a thriller. Christiaan Jonker’s 59 from 36 balls helped Warriors to 153/8 and, despite some late hitting from Robbie Frylinck (25*) and Keshav Maharaj (13*), the Dolphins finished just short on 152/7.
With form patchy at best – and the rain making consistency hard to find – Bet365 are split offering 1.90 on Dolphins to win and the same on Warriors to win. Betway have leaned towards Dolphins at 1.83, again offering 1.90 on Warriors.
Gihahn Cloete has top-scored in two of Warriors’ three matches so far and he is 1.83 to score over 19.5 runs with Betway, while Marco Marais heroics last time out means he is 1.83 to score over 18.5. Cloete is 3.75 to be Warriors’ top batsman.
For the Dolphins, Morne van Wyk is 3.25, as is Sarel Erwee, while captain Khaya Zondo is 4.75.
Dolphins have good bowling depth, however – Daryn Dupavillon is 3.25 to be their top bowler, the same as Robbie Frylinck, while top wicket-taker Prenelan Subrayen is 4.00.
Both sides go into this game with just one win apiece and have been frustrated by the weather, but Dolphins’ bowling so far has been better than Warriors and that could be the difference.
