Chittagong Vikings Team News & Playing 11

CHV Team News

Robbie Frylinck returned to the team with a match-winning performance against Dhaka Dynamites, replacing Najbullah Zadran in the starting line-up in the only change between the Vikings’ last two wins. The team that beat Dhaka looks to be the Vikings’ best balanced one, with Dasun Shanaka having stepped in for the last two games following the conclusion of Sri Lanka’s tour of New Zealand. Changes have generally been kept to a minimum.

CHV Key Players

Robbie Frylinck’s all-round form is firing the Chittagong Vikings to success at the moment. The South African all-rounder has been a revelation so far, contributing in all five games he has played. He has 11 wickets in that time for starters, including 2-19 last time out against the Dynamites and seven wickets for 40 runs across the first two matches. He has also hit some vital runs, top-scoring with 44 not out against Sylhet Sixers. He also scored 23 against Khulna Titans, including two sixes in the final over to force a tie before batting and bowling the Vikings to victory in the Super Over, and last time out his unbeaten 25 including three sixes in the final over to seal victory against the Dynamites.

Elsewhere, Mushfiqur Rahim hit a patient 22 last time out, meaning he has now passed 200 runs for the tournament – including half-centuries in the Vikings’ previous two games. Cameron Delport starred with bat and ball, meanwhile – he took 3-25 to move to five wickets in his last two games, and then hammered 30 from 12 balls at the top of the innings.

Mohammad Shahzad fell short but his ability is no secret any more. He shone in the Afghanistan Premier League and had scored 46 and 33 in his previous two innings.

Backing Frylinck (and now Delport) with the ball, meanwhile, are the likes of Abu Jayed – who moved to nine wickets after 2-26 in four overs, including a maiden.

CHV Team Form

Chittagong Vikings have emerged as serious rivals to Dhaka Dynamites after beating them in their most recent game. Robbie Frylinck starred with bat and ball (2-19 and 25* including three sixes in the final over, as they reached 145/7 to win by three wickets) to continue the theme of his and the Vikings’ tournament so far.

He started with 4-14 to bowl defending champions Rangpur Riders out for 98 on the way to a three-wicket win in the opening game, and then took 3-26 and scored 44* in a six-run defeat to the Sylhet Sixers. The Vikings have not lost since. Frylinck hit two sixes in the final over to force a tie chasing 152 to beat Khulna Titans, and then bowled and batted as the Vikings won the Super Over. He also hit the match-winning six against Comilla Victorians – with two balls to spare – after Mushfiqur Rahim’s 75 from 41 balls had powered the chase of 185 in a four-wicket win.
Rahim hit another half-century, as did Yasir Ali (54) and nearly Mohammad Shahzad (46), in the huge total of 214/4 in their only game in Sylhet, on their way to a 26-run win, before the Vikings beat league leaders Dhaka Dynamites.

Cameron Delport (3-25), Frylinck (2-19) and Abu Jayed (2-26) helped restrict the Dynamites to 139/9 before Delport hammered 30 to set up a successful chase. They looked to have left themselves a little too much to do after some sluggish middle overs, but Frylinck hit an unbeaten 25 from ten balls – including those three sixes – in a three-wicket win, with one ball to spare.

Rajshahi Kings Team News & Playing 11

RK Team News

Rajshahi Kings made two changes for the game against Comilla Victorians last time out and one at least paid off big time – Laurie Evans hammering the first century of this year’s competition in a 38-run win, having previously been out of form.

Qais Ahmed was the other player to come in, replacing Isuru Udana who was on international duty with Sri Lanka A. He took two wickets but was expensive and the Kings must decide whether to make further changes or stick with a winning line-up.

RK Key Players

Laurie Evans’ ability was well known, having been top run scorer in the English T20 Blast and one of the top players as Kabul Zwanan reached the Afghanistan Premier League final. His unbeaten 104 opening the batting was his first T20 century, however, and a sign he is back to his best form.

Evans shared an unbroken 148-run partnership with Ryan ten Doeschate (59*) – the Dutch all-rounder having also starred in the Afghanistan Premier League. Asked to bowl for the first time in this year’s tournament, he also claimed 2-15 last time out – showcasing his importance with bat and ball.

The bowlers have been in more consistent form, however, with Kamrul Islam Rabbi the latest to star. He took 4-10 from his three overs as the Comilla Victorians were bowled out last time and now has seven wickets for the tournament. Mustafizur Rahman has one less, but his six have come with an economy rate of just 4.96 runs per over. Arafat Sunny is their leading wicket taker, meanwhile, with nine – including 3-8 in the win against Dhaka Dynamites.

RK Team Form

Rajshahi Kings’ batsmen finally fired in their win against Comilla Victorians, as Laurie Evans hit the BPL’s first century of the season (104*) and shared a 148-run unbroken fourth-wicket stand with Ryan ten Doeschate (59*) in a total of 176/3. Kamrul Islam Rabbi then claimed 4-10 from three overs in a 38-run win.

Previously, they had struggled with low scores – their other wins owing much more to their bowling than their batting. They lost after being bowled out for 106 and 124 in the first and third matches respectively, but beat Khulna Titans by seven wickets after dismissing them for 118 in between.

They then defended 135/8 against Rangpur Riders, with Mustafizur Rahman bowling three dot balls in the final over to seal a five-run win.

Another defeat followed as the inconsistent form continued – bowled out for 103 by Khulna Titans chasing just 129 to win. They then proved their inconsistent form by beating the previously unbeaten Dhaka Dynamites, defending 136/6. Arafat Sunny claimed 3-8 as Dhaka finished on 116/9.

They finally backed a win up with another last time out, meanwhile, thanks to Evans, Ten Doeschate and Rabbi, and have four wins and three defeats from seven games so far.
