Central Hinds are favorites to win
Central Hinds Women will take on Northern Brave Women at Pukekura Park. Match 7 of the 2022-23 Women’s Super Smash gets underway at 11:00 local time on Saturday 31st December.
After two games in the tournament, Central Hinds are bottom of the table after defeats against Wellington Blaze and Canterbury Magicians. However, with Northern Brave Women also still looking for their first win, this could be a great opportunity for the Hinds to get their first points.
All the evidence ahead of the match with Canterbury Magicians suggested that Pukekura Park would be a good batting wicket, but Central Hinds were bowled out with only 88 runs on the board. Middle-order batter Hannah Rowe top scored with 30.
Hannah Rowe has been impressive with bat and ball during the tournament so far but could not add to her two wickets from the first game on Friday. Claudia Green and Georgia Atkinson picked up the only wickets in the last match for Central Hinds.
Central Hinds are in poor form in the Women’s Super Smash with only one victory from their last six games.
Eimear Richardson’s side have won one toss and lost one toss but been defeated in both of their opening two matches in the tournament. Chasing 166 for victory on Wednesday, Northern Brave Women could only reach 145-7, a defeat margin of 20 runs.
Opener Caitlin Gurrey has been in fantastic form across all formats but had to retire hurt on 21 not out in the last game. The injury is not thought to be serious and Northern Brave Women will do everything they can to get her on the pitch for this game alongside opener Bernadine Bezuidenhout.
Northern Knights Women picked up only three wickets against Otago Sparks in their last match with one of those dismissals a run-out. On a good batting pitch, the opening pair of Shriya Naidu and Kayley Knight will be crucial to keeping the runs down against Central Hinds.
With only one win in the 2021-22 campaign and two defeats already in this season’s tournament, Northern Brave Women’s form is very poor.
The match will be played at Pukekura Park. We expect to see good pace in this wicket with the quick bowlers getting good carry. A par score will be around 135.

Both teams are struggling for form but this could still be a very interesting contest in New Plymouth. Neither team look particularly confident and we think Northern Brave Women have the weaker players with bat and ball. Our prediction is for Central Hinds to win
