Canterbury Magicians are favorites to win
Central Hinds Women will take on Canterbury Magicians at Pukekura Park. Match 7 of the 2022-23 Women’s Super Smash gets underway at 11:00 local time on Friday 30th December.
It was a disappointing start to the campaign for Central Hinds who were well beaten by Wellington Blaze by 46 runs in Match 4. The batters struggled to 109-9 in pursuit of 156 for victory and Hinds will need to be better with both bat and ball if they are to challenge the Magicians in this game.
Keeper-batter Natalie Dodd top scored with 37 runs from 35 balls at Fitzherbert Park on Tuesday and the opener was only given support by captain Jess Watkin (16 runs from nine balls) and Mikaele Greig (27 runs from 29 balls). We expect Watkin to be particularly aggressive on this batter-friendly wicket in New Plymouth.
Hannah Rowe was the pick of Central Hinds’ bowlers in their opening match. She took 2-33 with Claudia Green, Jess Watkin and Georgia Atkinson all contributing a dismissal each. Rosemary Mair conceded 40 runs against Wellington and will need to be far tighter with her lines in this game on a pitch which favours the batters.
Central Hinds have won only one of their last five Women’s Super Smash matches.
The Magicians have won both of their matches so far in the 2022-23 Women’s Super Smash, and they sit in the top two places alongside Wellington Blaze at this early stage of the competition. A win in this game will see them go four points clear at the top of the table.
The Canterbury Magicians batters got their team to the 145 target with six wickets and six balls remaining in their last game. Skipper, and one of the most consistent batters in the tournament, Amy Satterthwaite, hit 50 not out from 46 balls and she will once again be the key wicket.
Gabby Sullivan has taken three wickets in the competition so far but there was also some impressive fielding from Canterbury Magicians in the last game. They took two wickets by run-outs and we expect the fielders to give their bowlers plenty of support again in this match.
Canterbury Magicians have won three of their last four Super Smash fixtures.
The match will be played at Pukekura Park. It is a good batting wicket at this venue and it would not be a surprise to see both teams post scores of over 150.

Even without Amy Satterthwaite, most pundits would expect Canterbury Magicians to be too strong for Central Hinds in this game. However, the skipper is in fine form and we expect her to produce another big score at Pukekura Park. Canterbury Magicians have quality throughout their team and we are predicting another victory for them in this match.
