Cape Town Blitz have appointed South Africa middle-order batsman Farhaan Behardien as their captain for this inaugural edition of the MSL. However, Behardien along with Quinton de Kock, Andile Phehlukwayo and Dale Steyn will not be available for the first weekend of the tournament as they are all currently on national duty in Australia. The team management is yet to decide on who will lead the side against Tshwane Spartans, but head coach Ashwell Prince has hinted that it will probably be England's David Malan. JP Duminy had earlier been included in the squad but was later replaced by Quinton de Kock due to injury.

Malan cracked an impressive 54-ball 85 in Monday's warm-up match versus Paarl Rocks and he will look to take his team off to a brisk start. The team will also hope for strong performances from Jason Smith and Kyle Verreynne in the middle order. In terms of bowling, the Blitz will rely heavily on their spinners Dane Piedt, Samuel Badree and George Linde. Sean Williams, Sikandar Raza and Lungi Ngidi are all away on national duty and will miss the first two games for the Spartans. Rilee Rossouw is set to replace Zimbabwean all-rounder Sean Williams in the middle order. Dean Elgar and de Villiers will probably open the batting for the Spartans with Eoin Morgan expected to come in next at number three.
