Bangladesh Women are favorites to win
Bangladesh Women will take on Malaysia Women at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium Ground 2. Match 11 in the Round-robin stage of the 2022 Women’s Asia Cup gets underway on Thursday 5th October at 13:30 local time.
After opening the tournament with a big nine wicket victory over Thailand Women on Saturday, Bangladesh Women were brought back down to earth with a defeat by the same margin against Pakistan Women on Monday. The hosts are in fourth place out of seven sides.
Shamima Sultana hit 49 runs from 30 balls against Thailand Women alongside fellow opener Fargana Hoque. Between them, the pair put on 69 runs from 8.1 overs. However, against Pakistan Women, both openers made only one run each.
Salma Khatun has taken a wicket in both games with the 32 year old off-spinner taking her 80th and 81st WT20I wickets. 21 year old off-spinner Sanjida Akter Meghla took a very impressive 2-11 from four overs against Thailand Women.
Although the defeat against Pakistan Women will have been a setback, Bangladesh Women had won their previous four matches.
After three games, Malaysia Women have picked up zero points and are at the bottom of the table in the 2022 Women’s Asia Cup. They were expected to lose to Pakistan Women and India Women but the seven wicket defeat to UAE Women will have been a disappointment.
Captain Winifred Duraisingham was expected to be Malaysia Women’s strongest batter in the tournament but got two ducks from her opening two innings. However, she showed her talent against UAE Women with 33 runs from 53 balls and was their top scorer.
Malaysia Women’s bowlers had a tough first game in the competition, taking only one wicket against Pakistan Women, but have since dismissed four batters against India Women and three against UAE Women. Sasha Azmi took 1-7 from four overs in Wednesday’s defeat.
Malaysia Women came into this game in strong form but have lost three matches in four days in this tournament.
The match will be played at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium Ground 2. There is not much bounce on this wicket with spin bowlers producing a huge amount of turn.
