Australia Women are favorites to win
Bangladesh Women will take on Australia Women in the first game of the WT20I series at the Shere Bangla National Stadium, Mirpur. This match gets underway at 12:00 local time on Sunday, 31st March, 2024.
We can expect to see consistent bounce, although it will be low, throughout this game in Mirpur. There will be turn for the spinners from the first ball and batters will need to take advantage of the powerplay fielding restrictions.

Although the WODI series was very one-sided with the hosts losing 3-0, Bangladesh Women will have to approach this game with a positive attitude and hope they can find the form which saw them beat South Africa Women back in December. Fargana Hoque has been left out of the squad with Dilara Akter taking on keeper-batter duties,
There will be plenty of pressure on Nigar Sultana to make the bulk of the runs across this series and in this opening WT20I. 19 year old Akter has experience of five internationals but she can not be expected to produce many runs with a top score of 8 so far for her country!
Off-spinner Shorifa Khatun has been called up to the squad for this series and she impressed in the final WT20I against South Africa Women with 1/10, including the big wicket of Anneke Bosch, from her two overs. We expect Khatun and the other spinners to be Bangladesh Women’s biggest threat.
Bangladesh Women have won only one of their last four WT20Is although that does include one no-result.
Murshida Khatun, Dilara Akter Dola, Sobhana Mostary, Sumaya Akter, Nigar Sultana (c) (wk), Shorna Akter, Shorifa Khatun, Nahida Akter, Ritu Moni, Fahima Khatun, Marufa Akter
This was always expected to be a tour in which Australia Women would be far too strong for their hosts and the WODI series certainly reflected that. This is another format in which Australia Women are very accomplished and they will be confident of getting off to a winning start.
Australia Women’s batters never treat the opposition bowlers with much respect even at the best of times and in a format which doesn’t have much time for defensive strokes, we can expect another attacking approach from Beth Mooney and Alyssa Healy at the top of the order.
Spinner Georgia Wareham took the Player of the Match Award in the last WT20I clash between the sides and the leg-spinner also impressed in the second WODI with 2/30. We can also expect to see off-spinner Ashleigh Gardner after she starred during the WODI series.
Australia Women have won four of their last five WT20Is by a margin of between 5 and 8 wickets.
Alyssa Healy (c) (wk), Beth Mooney, Phoebe Litchfield, Ash Gardner, Ellyse Perry, Georgia Wareham, Annabel Sutherland, Grace Harris, Kim Garth, Tayla Vlaeminck, Sophie Molineux
Australia Women have been the best team across all formats for the last two decades and Bangladesh Women, although they are improving, are still way behind the top sides. We are predicting a comfortable win for Australia Women in this opening WT20I.
