Australia Women are favorites to win
Bangladesh Women will take on Australia Women in the first game of the WODI series at the Shere Bangla National Stadium, Mirpur. This match gets underway at 16:00 local time on Thursday, 21st March, 2024.
This is never the quickest pitch in Mirpur and we expect the spinners to play a big role in the WODI. A par score is likely to be no higher than 250-255.

After their 2-1 WODI series defeat in South Africa at the back end of last year, Bangladesh Women have rung the changes ahead of this series with the uncapped wicket-keeper Farzana Akter and 15 year old off-spinner Nishita Akter Nishi called up.
Skipper Nigar Sultana is expected to take on wicket-keeping duties for this series but is also an accomplished batter with nine international half-centuries and one hundred in WT20Is. Alongside her, we expect opener Fargana Hoque to provide the bulk of runs in this game.
In home conditions, Bangladesh Women’s bowlers will always have the opportunity to cause problems, particularly with their spin attack. Slow left-arm spinner Nahida Akter and 19-year old leg-spinner are likely to be tough to face in Mirpur.
Bangladesh Women have recorded wins during series against India Women, Pakistan Women and South Africa Women across their last three WODI series.
Fargana Hoque, Murshida Khatun, Sobhana Mostary, Nigar Sultana (c) (wk), Fahima Khatun, Ritu Moni, Shorna Akter, Nahida Akter, Rabeya Khan, Sultana Khatun, Marufa Akter
There have been a few changes to Australia Women’s squad since it was announced last month. Grace Harris has taken Darcie Brown’s place after Brown was ruled out due to a foot injury and all-rounder Heather Graham is now unavailable. In spite of the spinning conditions, Jess Jonassen remains omitted from the group for this series.
After her impressive exploits with the bat which propelled RCB Women through the latter stages of the Women’s Premier League and all the way to the trophy, Ellyse Perry is likely to be a real threat along with Alyssa Healy and Phoebe Litchfield for the tourists in this opening WODI.
With the ball, we can expect the experienced Megan Schutt to be used early on in the innings before taking on a holding role with a view to keeping the economy rate down. Spinners Sophie Molineux, Alana King and Ash Gardner will all get plenty of turn in Mirpur.
Australia Women surprisingly lost a WODI against South Africa Women during their last series but they still won the series 2-1.
Phoebe Litchfield, Ashleigh Gardner, Ellyse Perry, Grace Harris, Georgia Wareham, Anabel Sutherland, Alyssa Healy (C), Beth Mooney (WK), Kim Garth, Alana King, Tayla Vlaeminck
This will be only the second ever WODI between Bangladesh Women and Australia Women with the first meeting coming in March 2022 during the World Cup in Wellington. Australia Women won that clash by 5 wickets and we are backing them to come out on top and get the win again in this WODI, although we do expect Bangladesh Women to cause problems with the ball.
